Our baby hippo, "shortstack" is now available for adoption!!!

This cute 50 lb compact little hippo is so ready for a home of her own!

She was used as a backyard breeding before being dumped at our local animal shelter. In her short life, she likely produced many litters, and made her previous owner lots of money, but her baby making days are now over !

She has been spoiled in her foster home and now prefers to be inside with the family. Is crate trained and house trained. She also is good with other dogs!

She never learned how to play, but now dances her little butt around and plays well with her fur-siblings.

She is 3 years old and just the cutest little bully ever!

She is an American bully, so she is short and compact with a big head :) She had some skin issues when we first got her, but it is now clear and healed. Her tail is calloused from sitting outside on cement most of her life, and the hair may never grow back. Her back toes also have a little deformity, where it looks like she is missing toes, but it turns out that they just never grew properly and doesn't stop her from dancing her cute little butt around the house :)

About Designer Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small scale dog rescue located in Los Angeles dedicated to saving “designer breed dogs”, also known as “mutts” from the Los Angeles shelter system. What’s funny about the term “designer” dog breeds is that these dogs are all just adorable (but trendy) mutts! Remember that shelters are full of adorable mutts desperately in need of homes. Adoption is the best option! And we are here to help these mutts transition from shelter life and into forever homes.

Mission statement ” To rescue unwanted dogs from the Los Angeles shelters and provide education for the misunderstood “mutt”, To bring awareness to the growing problem of backyard breeders producing “designer dog” breeds without a thought to the health of the animal or the same types of mixed breeds sitting in the shelter system”

Our rescue follows the no-kill policy and is operated solely by volunteers with an emphasis on foster homes, until we are able to have a physical rescue facility.

We are located in the San Fernando Valley and mostly rescue from the East valley animal shelter. We are just starting out and so we have only a few dogs available at one time. If you are interested in a certain breed, I can place you on a list for that breed and notify you when that breed becomes available.

We are 501(c)3! All Donations are Tax Deductible!

We run 100% on donations from our community, and could not do this without you!

We give back to our community through Trap, neuter, and release programs for the feral cats in our area and hope to expand our spay and neuter programs as well. Your donation will go directly to the care for animals. We greatly appreciate every donations, whether it is time or money.

We cannot function without community support. While most groups will forget about the most important volunteer, we are here to thank every one of you who helps spread our message. Tell your friends and family about us so that we can make Los Angeles No kill. Ask them to volunteer their time, or skip that morning coffee and donate to our great cause! Every little bit helps and we appreciate it all!

Thank you for your support!
