Nice Dog

I had Junior out with  his friend Spanky and a couple of other dogs today and everyone got along great.  He is about 6 years old and neutered.  He is house and crate trained, good with other dogs and kids.

We attempt to update our listings on Tues and Thurs and remove adopted pets during the week as they occur.  Not all of our adoptable pets are listed, please visit the shelter on a regular basis.   The NEW LEASH ON LIFE web site is: NLOL

About Craven-Pamlico Animal Services

About Our Shelter...

We are a division of Craven County Environmental Health Department, and serve as Rabies Control for Craven County and the Animal Shelter for most of Craven and Pamlico Counties stray or unwanted animals.

There are also several non-profit / volunteer rescue organizations in Craven, Pamlico, and other neighboring Counties. These groups have foster home programs for dogs, cats and sometimes other pets as well. Most can be found here as well as other on-line adoptions sites or call us for additional information.

Because we see so many unwanted animals, we urge that you consider all aspects of pet ownership. Dogs and cats are an ongoing financial expense, as well as being time consuming. They need regular Veterinary checkups, they need training (Craven County Recreation Department offers several Dog obedience classes each year),
they need responsible ownership, and last, but not least, they need love.

The acquisition of a pet should be a family decision; it is not a short term or temporary commitment to take an animal into your home. We strive to assist you in your choice of a dog or puppy, a cat or a kitten by asking questions regarding your lifestyle and your expectations of the pet.

By asking questions we are not being intrusive, we want to help you make the right decision, for you and for the pet. We hope that you will allow us to help you make that decision.

Our staff usually knows some of the personality traits of the animals in our care as the majority of the pets are actually surrendered by their original owners. Reasons range from moving, to children’s allergy, to just not having the time it takes to provide the companionship and care an animal requires.

We are ‘Rescue Friendly’ and will be glad to discuss our ‘rescue’ policies with a representative from your group. If you are a 501c3 group you will need to provide us with a copy of your EIN letter.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not participate in 'Adoptathons'; however, the local Rescue groups in Craven and surrounding counties have wonderful 'meet and greet' sessions and hold 'adoptathons' on a regular basis. Please feel free to call us for information about those organizations.

You may come to the Shelter Mondays/Fridays 8:30-5:30, Saturdays 10-3 but we do ask that you try to come 30 minutes before closing.
We are closed Sundays and County observed Holidays.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption fees include the pre-paid Veterinary fees for spaying or neutering and a rabies vaccination. Dogs/puppies are $95.00 and cats/kittens are $70.00.

We also offer a Senior Citizens discount for those of you that are 65 or older.

Craven County Ordinance requires Spaying or Neutering and vaccination of all adopted pets.

Fees are in CASH only, we do not accept Checks, Credit or Debit cards.

There is a ‘playroom’ with dog toys and kitty furniture for you to enjoy meeting with your new friend. We ask that you be here at least 30 minutes before closing in order to become acquainted, and for us to do the Adoption Contract.

We also gladly accept donations. Donation monies are used to purchase Heartworm test kits, tick and flea preventives, Feline Combo test kits and other health care products, in addition to toys and fleece bedding.
