Shelby is a 3-year-old Pit mix who was just rescued from a high-kill shelter in California! Shelby is now safe in her Seattle-area foster home. This gorgeous girl is so sweet and has a beautiful brindle coat.

Foster Update: Shelby is a very sweet loving dog and has been great with our kids. She is learning to just be a dog, play with toys and go for walks. She loves to snuggle up with you for extra attention and love.

Shelby is house trained. I am not sure how she would do with cats. I think after first introduction and Shelby knowing she is safe she would be fine with anything.  We don't think Shelby had much interaction. When we walk she is on defense each step. Dosen't pull on her leash unless she is unsure of what is coming towards us, but tail is tucked under. She does fine in her kennel when we are not home. She does get bored so needs chew bones in with her. She is learning to play with toys she has no clue. She is also working on staying down.

ADOPTION INFO:  $495, includes pull from shelter, spay/neuter, Rabies/DPPV/Bordetella vaccinations, heart worm testing, microchipping, health certificate, boarding, transport from California to Seattle, and any other unforeseen costs/treatment. This adoption fee not only contributes to this dog's care and rescue, but of hundreds of other high-risk dogs.

About Ginger's Pet Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is one of the largest non-profit pet rescue organizations in Washington state, and we specialize in saving Death Row Dogs. Our mission is to give homeless animals with no hope the life they deserve through rescue, foster and adoption. We rely on a large network of fosters in the Seattle area, who provide our dogs with love and care during transition from rescue to adoption. We do not have a physical shelter location; to meet the dogs in our rescue, contact us to connect with a foster or join us at an adoption event!

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We rely solely on the support from adoption fees and donations to help us provide for the ~100+ dogs in our rescue at any given time.

How We Rescue

We take in dogs from local families in need, in state and out of state shelters, and we also work with overseas rescue groups on occasion. We do not discriminate – we rescue dogs small and big, old and young, healthy and sick, purebred and Heinz 57! Our belief is that every dog deserves a forever home.
Our History

Ginger’s Pet Rescue was founded in 2006 by Ginger Luke after saving one Dachshund’s life turned into a life-long endeavor. The organization is dedicated to providing great care for our dogs and adoption efforts!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Ginger's Pet Rescue has all our dogs in foster care.

You must complete an application and then you can meet the dogs by appointment with the foster dog parents.

You may also come to one of our adoption events to meet our adoptable dogs and fill out an application in person:

Our Adoption Process...

The first step to adopting a pet from Ginger’s Pet Rescue is completing our Adoption Application and email to or submit via our Contact Form on our website. This application will allow us to know more about your family, what kind of pet will fit best and your home, and whether you will be a good match for one of our dogs. Please include the dog(s) you are interested in on the application. We review applications upon receipt and will reply as soon as possible, usually within 1-2 days.

Adoption fees range from $300-$700 depending on a number of the factors, and adoption fees are what allow us to continue our rescue, as our primary source of funding.

If for any reason the dog does not work out, we are willing to take the dog back and refund your adoption fee less a $100 rehoming fee.
