Sip (also known as Forest) is a 1 year old hound mix that was surrendered to SSHS because his previous owners were having difficulty training him. He is a little unruly at times, as he likes to jump and nip when he's excited. His ideal home would be one without very young children, or dog-savy kids that would be able to tolerate his excessive puppy behavior. Sip is potty trained and knows his basic commands. If you are looking for a way to bond with him, you could definitely sign up for training classes with him. Sip would do best as an only dog, as he can be very possessive with his toys and food.

Sip is now in foster care where he is getting daily one-on-one training. We're excited to see him again soon and meet the fine young gentleman we always knew he was deep down!

If you are up for the challenge of taking on a dog that needs a little work, please email to meet him!

About South Suburban Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For forty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We have grown from a small group of volunteers to an organization made up of volunteers and paid employees that were responsible for almost 4,400 animals in 2013. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate two resale shops located in Steger, Illinois and Chicago Heights, Illinois that promote our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We also have adoptable cats at THREE PetSmart locations! PetSmart Tinley Park, PetSmart Orland Hills, and Petsmart Schererville, IN are both key adoption partners where many of our adoptable kittens and cats are housed until they find their forever homes.
