found a new home!
Plenty of my friends are looking
for one too. Find a pet to adopt.
I am already neutered and up to date with shots.
Little Ricky was given the “formal” name of Rio as a puppy, but because of his quirky personality, his foster mom thinks Little Ricky suits him much better! Because he is part Pekinese, he has a shorter nasal passage and he does lots of snorting; and because he is a tiny boy with longer legs, he has cute jumping, twisting, and bouncing movements as he plays.
He is just 9 pounds, and is 1 ½ years old.
Although timid and shy at first, Ricky will warm up to you quickly if you will hold him and cuddle with him---his favorite thing to do! He has just “discovered” how fun it is to chase and run with another little Shih Tzu pup, and to toss around soft toys, and hide them in his doggie bed. Another little Shih Tzu would be fun for him, and help him continue to develop socially, but it is not a requirement to adopt him. He has enjoyed several shorter walks a day, stopping to watch any movement, person, car, or squirrel. Consistent walks outside on a leash at set times have helped him be near perfect in his house training. As is common for young dogs, Ricky has spurts of “wild” energy or play, and then wants to collapse next to you on the couch, chair, or bed,-curling up to touch you while he softly snorts to sleep! Little Ricky is a charmer, and a sweet, sweet little boy. He would love a quiet home without lots of outside activity so your focus can be on him. Because of his puppy behaviors and small size, before you apply to adopt him, consider that he will be under foot quite often—dancing around your feet! This could be a liability if you are unstable on your feet or not paying attention when you are walking him.
Ricky cannot be put in a kennel or crate while you are away from the house. Kenneling agitates him and he will chew on the bars, leading to injury of his teeth and mouth. He is currently allowed to be free or is gated in the foster home and does just fine. A belly band can be used when you are away, but he has had no accidents in the last few days.
Ricky is in excellent health, neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations. He is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $370.00 plus $26.92 sales tax for a total of $396.92. His foster mom would like to find his adoptive home within 60 miles of Bloomington, MN, and she does ask the adopter to attend our STRMN Rescue Reunion each year the 3rd Saturday in September.
To meet Ricky, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale on Saturday, November 5th or Saturday, December 3rd.
