My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sir Robbie, the Magnificent
5 year old, male, Maine Coon

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of these cats. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of these cats. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this. Robbie is not in a Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue foster home but residing with his caretaker in Hollister, CA.

Sir Robbie was dropped off at a shelter where he was so very stressed out and unhappy. He was surrendered because his owner, a senior living at a senior facility, couldn't take care of him any longer. There was really no paperwork that followed Sir Robbie to the shelter. The shelter did the necessary vet exam and found him a healthy, though very sad and distraught kitty.

The shelter felt they had no option than to euthanize him unless our organization was able to take him into foster care. We were able to find him a foster home where he has his own private room so he can chill out and his kind foster mom can assess him. There is really not a lot known about this big, 18 lbs. boy.

While in foster care, Sir Robbie is starting to come out of his reserved shell. He will now forgo the treat right in front of him for some serious head rubbing time. He absolutely loves having his head and chin scratched and can't seem to get enough. He is not too keen on having his sides touched unless it's him that is wending his way through your outstretched hand. Side touching can elicit a nip. We will never know how he was treated or handled before he was taken to the shelter, so with time, patience, and an innate understanding and appreciation of kitty nature, he may one day even enjoy receiving a full body rub. But for now, his foster mom is beyond pleased on how he is starting to show his loving and trusting side.

Before we rescued him from the shelter, we were told that he has always lived indoors and is altered, microchipped and vaccinated. He should be the only animal in the household and likes attention on his own terms. He is a very striking boy and is food motivated. He is initially very cautious and will need an understanding owner who will provide him with the space that he needs to learn to trust. We can only surmise that he may not have received a lot of socialization in his previous home, which would explain why he is initially reluctant and apprehensive.

We firmly believe that euthanizing this strapping boy was not an option. How often do we hear that with the right person the kitty becomes a loving companion in due time? Sir Robbie just needs to find that right person. His foster mom’s approach seems to confirm that Sir Robbie the Magnificent has the potential to become a very loving kitty companion to a very lucky adopter.

He needs the type of cat owner who appreciates the visual enjoyment of a big strapping cat in their house and who allows him time to come for some loving. We do not see him with little children that think a big fluffy kitty equals a big stuffed teddy bear. He needs a patient, loving cat person who will give him time and space to evolve into a trusting companion. Meanwhile he can be admired for his sheer magnificent physical presence.
