Like a very fine wine, Fernando is aged to perfection. He is a loyal and constant companion with a sweet, sweet temperament, who gets along well with other like-minded dogs (smaller is better) and makes a lovely addition to any gathering. And he's house trained! Fernando spends his evenings away from the shelter in a fabulous foster home with another adoption dog and 3 resident dogs. He enjoys their company, never creates a fuss and is happy to snuggle with his human friends while watching whatever Netflix has to offer. He has no opinion about the recent election, so he is much more comforting than FaceBook or any other social scene you might have.

Fernando's been on quite a journey, as you can imagine someone of his age might experience. He's undergone the loss of his guardian and interim living situations, but throughout all of it he has maintained his excellent equilibrium. At this point, he'd like to live a quiet life of privilege here in the bubble with you, your routine-oriented family, mature children, other like-minded dogs and possibly a cat who won't be too much of a bother. A lively walk every day and maybe an education refresher of the Family Dog school would suit him just fine.

Fernando sometimes startles easily, so a little sensitivity to his senior-ness is in order. Lively children might be too much for him; he's not keen to be picked up without a little warning (buy him a drink first), but gentle petting is always welcome.

Fernando is still adjusting to his new world order, so having another small canine of similar attitude to share his alone time with might be a really good thing. Is your resident dog looking to round out his/her life? If all this sounds like just what you've been looking for then you can add Fernando to the list of things you're thankful for. No one will be more thankful and loving than Fernando, so the feeling will be completely mutual.
