Charlie was adopted from Animatch and returned after a few months because he was too reactive in certain situations. Understandably the family was not comfortable and made the difficult decision to bring him back. Animatch understood what steps had to be taken; this behaviour is not acceptable. In order for Charlie to have a brilliant future he needs training, training, training..... And where would Charlie get the education and guidance he needs? With Virginie Forest and Alain Bonneau at FIC (École de Formation des Intervenants canins du Québec) in Laval. According to Virginie, Charlie is just an adolescent who needs some structure and boundaries in his life. We can’t stress enough the importance of obedience training; it is crucial for a successful family life. We expect his adoptive family to continue obedience training so that Charlie can become a good canine citizen; he is eager to learn and very capable of being a well-mannered dog. This bundle of energy wants someone who is home a lot during the day to reinforce good behaviour. Charlie needs an experienced guardian who is willing to practice positive reinforcement training consistently. He would enjoy being part of an active adult family who will also meet his exercise needs – he may be small but he is young and active. Would you be that family? My name is Charlie and I’m looking for a new place to hang my hat ... or my leash! I am approximately 9 months old and a Terrier mix who was brought to Animatch because my family had too many dogs. I was not well socialized as a young pup so I do tend to be suspicious of strangers and try to protect my space. An experienced home without young children would best suit me. Don’t let my size fool you, we terriers are rugged little guys and I can keep up on long walks, hikes, and retrieving that Frisbee. Being a terrier means that I would do better in a home with a fenced yard so I can roam free and explore my space; I will rid your yard of squirrels. Keep in mind, playing is not a substitute for the all-important daily walks. When you take me for a stroll around the neighbourhood and let me sniff everything, I’m really gathering information on what has changed since the last time we walked the same route. Dogs need to use all their senses. I’m all set to start basic obedience training and please don’t think that taking classes once a week or getting a trainer to come in to our home is the quick fix. Training is an every-day-for-life obligation; make it fun. You can even teach me some tricks. Since I am still a pup, a home where I am not alone all day would best suit me. Well, do I sound like a catch? I bet you you’re smitten already. Well, you know the drill. Fill in the Adoption Form and let’s see what happens.
