Foster // Foster-to-Adopt Needed

We are in need of a dog-savvy person who can foster Siku while we work on his training to better prepare him for adoption.

Please read entire profile before inquiring

Siku (meaning 'ice' in Greenlandic) is a beautiful 3-year-old White Siberian Husky who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in California. Siku requires a home that is dog-savvy and committed to his training, as this combination is integral in helping him to reach his potential. His future owner will also need to be capable of confidently handling Siku's power and strength, as well as his need for an active lifestyle and daily vigorous exercise - Siku could quite literally be a sled-pulling dog. He enjoys being "worked" and having a job, so pack work, nose work, and other ongoing training would be a great outlet for this boy.

Unfortunately Siku's previous owners didn't understand that a happy dog is a well-trained dog, so Siku thinks he's the boss. He has alpha behavior that needs to be curbed, which is a work in progress. With consistency and a firm but gentle alpha owner, we expect his training to catch on quickly as he is very intelligent and treat-motivated.  He is crate-trained, leash-trained (sans dog distractions, as he is leash-reactive), car-trained, potty-trained, and has not chewed/messed when left alone uncrated for periods of time up to 6 hours. Siku was on great behavior going to his foster's office with her and patiently hung out at her feet for up to 8 hours.

He is friendly towards everyone that has approached him, including large-statured men and children.  At the end of the day, Siku is very mellow in the house and is quite comfortable just lounging around and soaking up lots of pets. He'll thank you for a fun day with sweet snuggles, kisses, and adorable husky yodels!

ADOPTION INFO:  $550, includes pull from shelter, spay/neuter, Rabies/DPPV/Bordetella vaccinations, heart worm testing, microchipping, health certificate, boarding, training, transport from California to Seattle, and any other unforeseen costs/treatment. This adoption fee not only contributes to Siku's care and rescue, but for hundreds of dogs every year.  ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:  No small dogs. No cats. Securely fenced yard.

About Ginger's Pet Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is one of the largest non-profit pet rescue organizations in Washington state, and we specialize in saving Death Row Dogs. Our mission is to give homeless animals with no hope the life they deserve through rescue, foster and adoption. We rely on a large network of fosters in the Seattle area, who provide our dogs with love and care during transition from rescue to adoption. We do not have a physical shelter location; to meet the dogs in our rescue, contact us to connect with a foster or join us at an adoption event!

Ginger’s Pet Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We rely solely on the support from adoption fees and donations to help us provide for the ~100+ dogs in our rescue at any given time.

How We Rescue

We take in dogs from local families in need, in state and out of state shelters, and we also work with overseas rescue groups on occasion. We do not discriminate – we rescue dogs small and big, old and young, healthy and sick, purebred and Heinz 57! Our belief is that every dog deserves a forever home.
Our History

Ginger’s Pet Rescue was founded in 2006 by Ginger Luke after saving one Dachshund’s life turned into a life-long endeavor. The organization is dedicated to providing great care for our dogs and adoption efforts!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Ginger's Pet Rescue has all our dogs in foster care.

You must complete an application and then you can meet the dogs by appointment with the foster dog parents.

You may also come to one of our adoption events to meet our adoptable dogs and fill out an application in person: www.gingerspetrescue.org/events

Our Adoption Process...

The first step to adopting a pet from Ginger’s Pet Rescue is completing our Adoption Application and email to ginger@gingerspetrescue.org or submit via our Contact Form on our website. This application will allow us to know more about your family, what kind of pet will fit best and your home, and whether you will be a good match for one of our dogs. Please include the dog(s) you are interested in on the application. We review applications upon receipt and will reply as soon as possible, usually within 1-2 days.

Adoption fees range from $300-$700 depending on a number of the factors, and adoption fees are what allow us to continue our rescue, as our primary source of funding.

If for any reason the dog does not work out, we are willing to take the dog back and refund your adoption fee less a $100 rehoming fee.
