Benji's Story...
LOOKING FOR LOVE!
Meet Benji, a 3 year old Yorkie/silky mix, neutered male who weighs 13 pounds. He has had a thorough health examination, and is current on all of his vaccinations. Benji was surrendered to Foothills Animal Shelter by a relative of his owner, who is a patient at Nursing Facility. Foothills Animal Shelter contacted Rocky Mountain Yorkie Rescue to see if we could foster him and find him a forever home. Benji has lived his few little years at the facility in one room with his owner. His owner has progressed in her illness to a point where she is no longer able to care for him. Benji was not socialized properly as a young puppy and has some fear based aggression. He fears men and unexpected touch. For example, if he isn’t expecting to be picked up, he will snap in defense of himself. We have taken him to an Animal Behaviorist to learn the steps towards having him gain his confidence and relieving his anxiety around men and strangers. The paperwork provided by the Behaviorist would be available to an Adoptive parent.

Benji adapted well to the Fosters household and routine and gets along well with the other three small dogs. He is still in the puppy stage and loves to run and play fetch in the yard, and loves to run laps in any open space. He walks on a leash but still needs work on his speed walking and heeling. He can sit, sit pretty, and stay and is house trained, (but has pooped indoors on occasion). He also uses the dog door to relieve himself or to play outside or sun himself. He is a little whiny in the car, and we suspect this could be related to his last car ride for a trip to drop him off at the Shelter and losing his Owner, or he may have never been in a car before. He also has separation anxiety and will become vocal until your return home. Benji’s favorite place is by your side, no matter where you are, showing you how happy he is to have you in his life. He will even follow you as you vacuum, no fear! If he isn’t on your lap, he will be wrapped around your back or shoulders, he’s a funny and sweet little boy. He has some adorable traits that will make your heart melt and make you smile. If he wants something from you, he will sit pretty and beg and stay upright until you have read his mind for his needs. Benji’s ideal placement would be with a retired or work-at-home female, as he loves human companionship. He has enjoyed the company of children over 12 and teenagers, both male and female. If you think you would enjoy the company of a loving little boy with some work to do on his fears, Benji might be your perfect match. Please fill out the Adoption Application on our website.
