Sophie got to spend most of her year with a foster family who helped her through heartworm treatment. Now that she''s all healthy, she''s ready to meet her forever family! Here''s what her foster dad has to say about Sophie:

`Sophie is a sweet senior who is gentle and has very good manners. She likes petting and cuddling, and going on walks, and laying out in the backyard looking at squirrels. She is house-trained as long as she gets regular potty-breaks outside. She has plenty of energy and pep for activities, but is calm indoors, and is friendly toward house visitors. She''s also good at alerting you when the mailman, or a visitor, and other unusual activities arise outside the house. While she doesn''t do well in crates, she hasn''t chewed or damaged any house items, and does not jump on the furniture. She loves sitting for treats, going on walks, and just hanging out with us in the living room`

Act quickly to adopt *SOPHIE. Pets at this Shelter may be held for only a short time.

About Austin Animal Center

About Our Shelter...

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!

Come Meet Our Pets...

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Our Adoption Process...

Our standard Adoption fee for healthy, younger pets is $75. Pets over 5 years old have no adoption fee. Adoption includes a microchip and collar & tags, all the vaccinations a pet is old enough to receive, and spay or neuter surgery.
Adopters must be at least 18 yrs old with a current photo ID. Pets already in the home should have a current rabies vaccination and we may need to confirm permission for adoption from the owner of the property where an adopter lives.
