Hi Everyone...Lucky's my name and I lived in the same home for 11 years until my people surrendered their home and I came here. I'm a sweet happy little guy and I love to investigate and smell every little spot. (hmm...the Beagle in me) And I did well with the children, cats and dogs in my home. I also like balls and car rides. I might need a little help with potty training. My profile indicates that I sometimes had accidents when left alone but there was no indication how long I was left alone. And I'm successfully crate trained and didn't have accidents in the crate. One of my Walkers on the Canines for Cardio walk said that I'm easy to walk, don't chase other animals and I'm not fearful. I'm also lovable and playful with the other dogs. I know I'm a slightly older guy but I have a lot of life left to live and I know how to appreciate a neighborhood stroll with my person, a loving touch, a gentle voice and a comfy spot in the living room. I hope you'll visit me soon.
My adoption fee includes my spay/neuter, up to date immunizations, nationally recognized microchip and more.

About Vanderburgh Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. (VHS), a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.

Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.

Our mission:
Leading our community to eliminate pet overpopulation through Spay/Neuter, Adoption, and Humane Education. Alter. Adopt. Adore.

We also offer a Safe Pets Program, which provides a safe haven to pets of local families who are victims of domestic violence, working with a local shelter, and have no place for their pets to go in a dangerous situation.

Our Pit Stop Program provides funding for any resident of Vanderburgh County to get their pit bull-type dog spayed or neutered at no cost. Only a $10 rabies shot is required if the pet is not current.

We provide bi-weekly Emergency Pet Food Assistance to local families having a rough time providing for their pets.

Our Pet-Assisted Therapy program brings volunteers to local nursing homes and assisted living centers with gentle-tempered dogs who are up for adoption.

Come Meet Our Pets...

While we hold and/or attend several events throughout the year that sometimes involve us bringing animals with us, we only do adoptions onsite at the shelter.
