Facts about Bruno

  • Breed: Border Collie
  • Color: Unknown
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: D2016051
Name: Bruno
Age: 1 ½ years
Breed: Border Collie
Location: Manassas, VA
Energy Level: Medium to High
Background: Bruno was surrendered to EHDR due to his owners not having time for him. He was kept outside in a pen with little contact and training. He was fed a poor diet and didn’t receive a lot of socialization but is now healthy and ready to go!
Ideal Home: Bruno’s ideal home would be with a person or family that is active but also loves to cuddle! He can be a bit shy in new situations but comes around with reassurance. He loves to run and hike both on and off leash. He loves to play with toys and would make a great flyball or disc dog! He is fine with a dog savvy cat and backs down or shys away if they get angry at him. He must go to a home with another dog as he uses a confident dog to help him when in a new situation. He is fine with kids but we would prefer a home with no or older kids for him since he would like a less crazy atmosphere.
Likes: Soccer ball...SO MUCH! He just runs around with it in his mouth loving life. He's getting better at catching it too. He likes to chase the hose water but hates being sprayed! He loves peanut butter. Loves cuddling and laying on your lap and also in bed right up against you. He loves having other animals around but isn't much of a player more of an observer. He likes having toys around in the house and picking them up and shaking them really hard. He likes to watch TV sometimes but will occasionally jump at the TV. He loves people and wants to greet everyone he sees. Commands he knows are lay down and drop it.

Dislikes: Bathes and carrots. He's sensitive, also, so he drops to the ground if you have to correct him for anything he does wrong. He can be sensitive to very loud noises as well.

About Eastern Herding Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Eastern Herding Dog Rescue is a small but mighty group that was founded in 2014 in Richmond, VA as the brainchild of Ashley Castro. A longtime lover of all things herding dog, she had been involved in Border Collie rescue since 2007 and general rescue since 2004 and helped rehome many canine companions. She made a plan to help her favorite group of dogs find their place in the world with the people that love them. Lucky for her she had some like-minded friends, and together they opened their hearts and homes to herding dogs in need.

We strive to set ourselves apart. Our foster homes are all trained in basic canine behavior and training techniques to properly rehabilitate our dogs and prepare them for their new homes. All of our foster homes use positive reinforcement training techniques to train our dogs and have firsthand experience with herding breeds. We have a behaviorist we partner with to assess our dogs, we enroll them in manners classes, and we appropriately socialize them in real world situations. We conduct phone and face to face interviews and meet and greets with potential adopters to ensure that the dog they're interested in is the perfect match and vice versa! We know our dogs best and want to adopt out the best dogs!

Our Adoption Process...

We require an application be filled out by anyone interested in meeting or adopting one of our dogs. We will conduct a reference check, veterinary check, and home visit before adoption takes place.

Our adoption fees for dogs are:
Under 6 months: $300
7 months - 8 years: $250
9+ years: $200

Our adoption fee for adult dogs covers microchipping, vaccinations, heartworm test, flea/tick treatment, and any existing medical issues the dog needed treatment for. For puppies under 6 months an additional $50 is charged which covers a spay/neuter deposit. This will be paid toward the vet of your choosing for the procedure or will be paid to Prevent a Litter if you are located in Richmond, VA. We cover the puppy shots up until adoption.
