My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clay is a neutered male Chocolate Lab that is approximately 5 years old and around 65 pounds of stumpy loveliness. He is a perpetual puppy and is the goofiest and fun lovingest guy you will ever meet!! Clay and his brother were purchased by a company as puppies to be trained to search for bed bugs. His brother was very successful at this and was matched with a handler and is well loved and gets to go with his Daddy to work everyday and loves his job. Clay just could never figure out what they were searching for. His trainer is a good friend of our rescue and she contacted us when she realized that she knew what Clay's perfect job was. His perfect job is to be someone's loving pet!!!

Clay knows he has a big job to fill by being someone's pet dog and he will try very hard to do his job as well as he can. He is housebroken with a doggy door and sleeps quietly (if you don't mind his loud snoring) in a crate every night and when the owners are gone during the day. His favorite job with being a pet dog is to entertain, and he is excellent at it. Clay makes his foster family laugh every day, most of the time several times a day. He is a very jolly boy and resembles a freight train when in your house, so some of the entertainment is from flying remote controls off the arm of the couch or his tip toeing down the hallway and then waking us all up when he first glimpses his foster mommy sleeping in her bed and pounds his stumpy tail along the wall because he is so filled with joy when he hears her call his name.

Clay needs someone willing to give him guidance on a daily basis. When he does not get daily training he sort of forgets what to do. He has had alot of training in his previous home and knows to sit, down, heel, stay, and not to jump up. But, he forgets what they all mean if he does not practice on a daily basis. Silly boy! He never jumps on his foster family anymore, but he forgets his manners when he meets new people and will often forget not to jump up. He is a puppy at heart!!! He is not allowed in the kitchen at his foster home but we feel if he was that he would probably try and counter surf, so anyone interested in this guy needs to remember that he forgets his manners when food is around and he is overcome with his love for food and will most likely put his feet on the counter.

Our big chunky boy is great with other dogs and plays at Doggy Daycamp twice a week. He can sometimes be mouthy when the other dogs are playing chase but he is also incredibly loving with his dog friends and will groom their faces, and ears when they are all resting together. He would probably do well with a male or female companion dog, or by himself.

He does have a mild case of entropia, which is where his eyelashes sometimes rub on his eyes. We had him checked by our vet and he said it is such a mild case that he doesn't see surgery as necessary. He gave us some eye drops to use as needed and he will be adopted with those.

If you are interested in meeting Clay and filling out an application please email us. His adoption fee is $250 plus a $10.99 microchip registration fee. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative.
