Nelson is a playful and affectionate 2-3 year old Dalmatian-American Bulldog-Great Dane mix.  Despite his size, he loves snuggling up in laps!  He is very well trained (sit, shake, lie down, stay, and heel) and does not tear up or mess in the house.  Within one week of arriving at his foster home, he learned how to “stay” and “heel.”  He’s super smart and very observant!  He can spend up to an hour just playing and throwing his ball by himself.  He’s a goofy guy who can’t wait to meet his forever family!

Nelson was picked up by Fulton County Animal Shelter in late April 2016.  The shelter found him chained up in a backyard with no food or shade.  From the looks of his coat and body when he arrived at Fulton, it’s most likely he spent his entire life chained up, isolated and alone.  It’s hard to imagine Nelson ever spent time alone, because he’s very loyal, gentle, and sweet with humans.

Nelson spent 6 months at Fulton before being rescued to Fur Kids.  Nelson had been Fulton’s longest term resident.  He had been put on the list for euthanizing because he began to get (understandably!) very anxious and stressed at Fulton and other dogs began to pick on him.  Nelson did not do so well at adoption events because he loves playing with his ball and all that time at the shelter made him forget how to connect with humans.  In his foster home, however, he’s anything but detached!  He loves hanging out with his foster parent and calmed down quickly after leaving the stressful shelter environment.

Nelson likes playing with other dogs, but he did get into scuffles with other dogs at Fulton during feeding time.  If he was adopted into a home with another dog, Nelson should be fed separately until he learns that he does not have to compete for a full meal.  At adoption events, he was nervous around little children when he was caged up.  He’s a big guy, too!  At 70 pounds (he should weigh about 65 pounds), he’s a handful, but also a quick learner who will take well to training.

Since Nelson’s estimated birthdate is 10/24/2013, his adoption fee is $275 [senior citizens (age 62 and older) and military personnel receive a 15% discount on adoption fees].   If you want to know more about Nelson and to speak to an Adoption Counselor, please complete an application at https://furkids.org/dog-adoptions/application.   Must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
