My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID

Dusty is a 9 year old Shih Tuz (maybe a mix) who came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue when he was not doing well at a local shelter. This is a very happy boy who loves being with people. He will follow you room to room with a wagging tail.

Dusty is a great little guy who is house trained, not a barker at all and just a joy to be around! He loves playing - any toy works although his favorites are balls and squeaky toys and he loves to go for walks and go on car rides. He is even very good on a leash. He has been an excellent boy when left home with free range of the house. He sometimes likes to get on furniture to curl in a little ball and sleep but for the most part he stays on the floor.

He loves people. When we go through the drive through for a coffee, he gets so excited to lean out the window – he forgoes the treat and just wants to say hi to the employees. Of course he’ll eat the treat later, but at the moment he just wants the love. He loves to be with people.

He is great with kids although he is going blind so sometimes they surprise him if they move too fast around him. The only time he has ever growled around a person is when he is playing and you go for his toy. He is not gentle when taking treats but that may be due to the other dogs around him right now, and he’s worried if he doesn’t act fast, he might miss out.

He doesn’t know a lot of commands but since he’s older he is calm and with his small size and good manners, his lack of training isn’t much of an issue. He does not jump on people. He has pretty good table manners and usually just sleeps under a chair at the table while we eat.

He is good with other dogs, he gets a little playful with them now and then but otherwise just ignores them. If they get too close to him he sometimes snaps but just as a warning; again this is due to his lack of eyesight. He was good with cats at the shelter he came from.

Dusty is partially blind, but not fully yet. It isn’t really a problem for him at this time. He cannot make his own tears so he is now on 2 different eye ointments a total of 3 times a day. This seems to be helping a lot. The vet also recommends possibly adding artificial tears as often as about 5 times a day. With a bit of time he should be able to go off the ointments and only need artificial tears. He is protective of his eyes; so when you try to exam them or groom around them he does get nippy and try to protect himself. He is ok about letting you put his eye meds in though – sometimes he snaps a little; but if you do it quickly (and one person holds him) he is usually compliant.

Dusty has been microchipped, neutered and is current on all his vaccinations. Dusty also recently had a dental.

If Dusty sounds like a good match for your family please go to http://fuzzypawzrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application-2/ and fill out the adoption application and his foster family will contact you shortly.

Dusty’s adoption fee is $100
