Molly and Max are a bonded brother and sister pair of beautiful, 7-year old purebred Golden Retrievers. They were turned into Sunshine by their owner because Molly kept escaping her yard. Living near a busy street, their owner was afraid she would be hit by a car. We believe Molly escaped to seek attention because the dogs lived outside in their yard with access only to a garage in bad weather and at night. While they had been kept up-to-date on their vaccinations and had been spayed and neutered, they were not given monthly heartworm preventatives so, of course, have tested positive for heartworms. They are receiving slow-kill heartworm treatment because they tested such a “high positive." It makes us sad that they must wait weeks to go to their forever home simply because they did not receive monthly heartworm preventative.
We cannot say enough about what a wonderful pair of classic Goldens we have found Max and Molly to be. They are well mannered and get along nicely with other dogs as well as cats. They both crave attention and are most happy with people nearby. They are very bonded to each other and will whine if separated. Our volunteer photographer noted how sweet they are with each other, even when competing for attention. It is sweet to see that Max will defer to Molly and let her take the lead.
Molly is energetic and a smaller Golden at 65 lbs. Friendly and affectionate, she is a “velcro Golden” who gives kisses. She sticks by your side and loves to be petted. She may jump up with excitement when first meeting a person, but then calms down. Molly has mild storm phobia and will pace and shake during a thunderstorm, but having someone nearby calms her. Molly loves water - Any water - and will even plop herself down in the middle of a puddle!
Max is more calm and laid back. He is a big boy at 92 lbs, which is a good weight for him. He also loves attention and petting, although he is slightly more independent than Molly, walking around and sniffing. Unlike his sister, Max is not a big fan of water, but he sure likes giving kisses! True to his breed, Max likes to carry a toy around and likes to play fetch. He drops his toy or ball at your feet once it is retrieved. He also will sit on command.
We wish for Max and Molly a home where they will receive the love and attention they crave, with lots of time with their people and doggie luxuries like soft beds and toys. They have big Golden hearts filled with love to share with their forever family, and will be able to be home for the holidays!

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.
A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
