Hi! My name is Oliver, but you can call me “Ollie”.  I am only 5 yrs old, but boy-oh-boy a lot of stuff has happened to me in my short life.  My original owners did not have time to devote to me because they were both in school and working full-time.  They decided I needed a family that could spend more time with me and contacted Little Paws.  I settled into my foster home without a hitch and did really well until a doxie’s worst nightmare.....I ruptured a disc in my back and couldn’t use my back legs. The folks at Little Paws wasted no time and I had back surgery immediately.  I was so hopeful that I would be able to walk again, but that has not happened despite surgery, laser treatments, and physical therapy.  It’s been a challenging summer, but I now have wheels and I am SO happy because I can do everything my buddies do. I love being outside when the weather is nice and you should see me move.  I am searching for a forever family with a doggy buddy to keep me company, but most important will accept me despite my disability.

Note: Because I am a paralyzed doxie I am looking for a forever family within 100 miles of the Metropolitan Baltimore DC Area.  An exception would be made for applicants with experience with paralyzed doxies and are willing to drive to Maryland to pick me up.

If you want to know more about me please contact my foster mom Email Beth at

About Little Paws Dachshund Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and wellbeing while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.

Our Adoption Process...

6 Step Adoption Process

We require:

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract. If you would like additional information on our adoption contract you can email and a copy of our contract will be sent to you electronically.
