Good with Children: Yes, very good
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: unknown
House trained: Not 100%, but getting better
Crate trained: No
Leash trained: Will pull some, but seems trainable eventually...baby steps.
Activity Level: Gunner is very "birdie" when outside and laid back when inside. He needs to be watched for getting things he shouldn't chew. He likes to get socks out of the laundry basket.
Fence REQUIRE: Fence & good sized yard with plenty of trees and bushes needed. He would stay out all day if you let him. He has shown no signs of trying to jump our 4 foot fence, but it's split rail and wire, so he can see what is out there. He has excaped via the front door when people are coming or going, so care needs to be taken until he learns not to bolt.
Behavior: Gunner is so sweet and loves to be with people. he prefers couches and people bed, but will go to his bed when encouraged. he is independent, but also needs a lot of love and encouragement. he has a short attention span and is almost like training a puppy. Everything seems to be new to him. He is just recently interested in playing with balls and toys.
Medical History: Gunner is up to date on vaccines, neutered, heartworm neg. He is being treated for hookworms & still needs to gain a little weight before travel to adopter. Will be retested in early December & should be able to go to adopters then.
Foster Comments: This is a wonderful dog. I believe he needs as much running and outdoor activity as possible to keep him out of trouble when he is indoors. he eats well, but is still very thin and needs good quality food.
I think he would be ok as a single dog, but also seems very comfortable having a doggie buddy.
Foster Location: Frederick, MD
In most cases volunteer transport is available for your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home.
Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue is not a shelter, but a group of volunteers who are committed to finding excellent homes for the dogs in our program. All of our dogs are living in foster homes in states across the country. Often times a dog is not geographically close to where an adopter lives. When possible, transport assistance is provided at no cost to the adopter. Our transports are coordinated by the Above and Beyond ES Rescue Transport volunteers and driven by volunteers.
