About Society for Animals in Distress

About Our Shelter...

The Society for Animals in Distress (SAD) was founded in 1971 in Toronto by Mr. Alan McGinn. He started the Society in response to the Animals for Research Act, which allowed stray animals in pounds and humane societies to be seized for medical research if not claimed within three days. SAD has successfully operated shelters in Toronto, Cambridge, Cobourg and Apsley before moving to Elliot Lake in 1995. Mr. McGinn passed away in February 2000, but we continue his work.
The shelter is open Monday - Friday 8 am - 3 pm
Saturday by apointment only.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Shelter hours are daily, Mon to Fri, 8 am to 3 pm where all animals can be seen. Dogs can be taken for walks etc during that time. Website has some links to videos showing the cat rooms and some of the dogs.
