Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sweet Zilla was left behind along with his senior companion Ladybird when his owner moved away. The neighbor who was caring for him after his owner left passed away suddenly, and the dogs ended up with the HFE. His companion Ladybird has already been adopted out, but Zilla will be seeking a forever home after he recovers from his heartworm treatments and leg fracture. Zilla is great with kids of all ages and energy levels. He is also good with dogs of all sizes and is extremely considerate of senior dogs given both his past and present senior companion in his foster home. He can be a bit nervous about new dog introductions so time should be taken for controlled introductions. He also appears to be unreactive towards cats, but once again a slow introduction would be best. Zilla does not seem to ever bark (instead he makes a nervous/excited whimper from time to time) so he won’t be a great match for someone that is looking for the added security of a dog who will bark at strangers that approach a house. He has also escaped a backyard before and is nervous about being left alone outside given his past abandonment so should never be left unattended outside even if fenced. He is crate trained, has learned some of his basic commands and is working on mastering more of them as well as some “low-energy” tricks to keep him stimulated during his recovering period. Overall, Zilla is a pretty sweet and special guy and will make a great addition to a family. Assuming his recovery continues on schedule, Zilla should be available for adoption by mid-April.
