A Little Bit About Me
Davey is part Beagle, part Terrier (perhaps Toy Fox Terrier or Rat Terrier?) ...an adorable combo. He is friendly and happy to be with people and is learning to make friends quickly. In fact, he has gained many friends here as they have gotten to know him.
Because he is shy and not as confident as he could be, he should go to a home with dog savvy folks who can give him a helping hand. He is interested in toys; teaching him about interactive toys that he can play with you (fetch, tug, training games) will raise his spirits. In fact, taking him through the Scenting program would be a great start. He does not have to interact with other dogs there and will gain pride in showing you his Beagle abilities and terrier spirit.
A family of mature people, no younger than thirteen or so, is needed for Davey. He can be shy and needs adult help when being walked to learn to focus on his people, not the dogs who are in the vicinity. He should be very carefully introduced to other dogs, but only if he chooses to meet them. High energy dogs are not his cup of tea at all. He possibly would be happiest as an only dog, as he chose to ignore or avoid dogs, not to interact with them.
Davey has some solid fans who have enjoyed walking and playing with him. Prepare to spend enough time with him when you meet him to let him get to know you and your family. He is not just a cute dog, he is a social fellow who wants to get lots of exercise, learn all the dog basics, especially sniffing, and tricks. The more you teach him, using motivational methods, the more confident he will be and the stronger the bond between the two of you.
Davey looks forward to getting a real home.
