My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?

My name is Gremmie! I know it’s unusual, but it’s because my people joked about me being like a little gremlin dog when they first met me!

How old are you?

Good question. I forgot my birthday (rats!), but my vet thinks I am around 5!

What do you look like?

I’m the cutest little rugrat you ever saw! When people meet me for the first time, it’s IMPOSSIBLE not to comment about how adorable I am. I’m very short and stocky and weigh about 35 pounds. My chest is big and muscular, but my back end is smaller (I forget to do “leg day” at the gym sometimes, okay….). I’ve got white fur with some being blue patches and blue speckles. My spine has a curve to it, which the vet thinks was from significant trauma, but it doesn’t seem to bother me now!

People like to make guesses about what breeds I am…maybe a pit and a bulldog? Maybe an Ameircan Bully and a pit? I’m some kind of adorable mix, that’s all I know.

What do you like to eat?

Everything? I don’t seem to have any allergies. My foster mom feeds me a dry dog food that has fishy stuff in it, which is delicious to me.

What kind of personality do you have?

I’m a GOOF. If I went to school, I would totally be the class clown without even meaning to. Not only do people giggle at how adorable and stocky I am, but they giggle when I snort and when I dance. I get super excited when I see humans and hop around like a bunny. I can’t really bark, the sound I make is more like a squawk like a tropical bird. My foster mom wondered if I had an injury to my throat when I was younger, or if I hurt my throat by pulling on a chain, but we don’t know. I get along with men and women; they’re both A-Okay in my book.

Describe your perfect day:

My perfect day would include a walk outside, some time to romp in the back yard and chase squirrels (My foster mom thinks it’s hysterical when I chase squirrels because I’m a little on the un-athletic side…), and chill time with a Kong on my doggy bed! My foster brother is a snob and only wants a Kong if it has peanut butter in it, but I’ll take a Kong any way you give it to me.

What is your favorite toy?

Man, I love toys! I love chewing on Nylabones and Kong toys. My foster mom has a toy that is like a puzzle game. I learned to roll the toy so that little treats come out! It’s so fun! I sometimes get excited and hop around when I see the treats!

Do you know any tricks?

I’m working on it. My foster mom thinks it’s basically a trick that I’m this cute. I also know sit. I’m learning to sit for my food and to wait for permission to exit my kennel.

What scares you?

I get a little scared and anxious when my foster mom first puts me in my kennel at night or when she goes to work, but I’m only scared for a minute or two and then I’m fine!

Do you like cats?

Like to EAT cats? Sure! I’ll give that a try!

In all seriousness, I haven’t been in a home with cats, but I probably wouldn’t do best with them.

Do you have any doggie best friends?

My foster brother, Sully, is a pit bull like me. I love him and hop around when I see him for the first time in the mornings or afternoon. I’ve played with a lot of other dogs, but that usually just means I’m hopping around looking ridiculous and trying to keep up with them. I can be territorial over my toys and my food, so my foster mom sets me up for success by not allowed toys out freely and not feeding me in the same room as my brother. I’ve already come a LONG way and am learning every day!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Anywhere my people are! I love car rides too. I make the cutest co-pilot.

How is your health?

Funny you should ask. As my foster mom is typing this, I’m actually getting spayed! I don’t know what that means, but my foster mom was excited about it. When I was first rescued, I had some weird red irritated patches on my skin, but those have cleared up. My vet is checking me today for a UTI because I had an accident in my kennel, which hasn’t been normal for me. If I do have a UTI, my foster mom is going to get me all fixed up with antibiotics! Like I said before, the vet thinks that my back was hurt from past trauma and she also noticed that my teeth had been broken and fractured. I’m so happy to be in a safe home now!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?

I share a home with two human best friends, Heather and Emily, and a five year old EC pit bull alum named Sully. I’m close with everyone!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

When my foster mom goes to work, she puts me in my crate in the guest room. I’m learning to go in my crate by myself whenever mom dangles a small treat in the back of the kennel. I like treats, so it’s easy to entice me! I stay in my crate from about 8:30 until around 4:30 every week day.

Where do you sleep?

I sleep in my kennel in the guest room. I don’t really mind sleeping in my crate because it is filled with plenty of warm blankets and I know I’m safe.

What do you love about your foster family?

That they gave me a chance! I was just a silly little gremlin who needed some help and they saw something special in me. How cool is that? I also love that they set me up for success by eliminating opportunities for me to be a punk. For example, they don’t let me run the house and don’t let me argue over toys with my brother.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?

I was rescued by Even Chance in September of 2016! I had been taken to Animal Control as a stray. Jessi and Heather, two people from Even Chance, were at animal control and just happened to spot me in the last row and the last cage in the back of the building. From across the room they laughed and said “What is that?!?! WE HAVE TO MEET IT!”

Before going to the shelter, I may have been a dog who lived on a chain or was kept outdoors. We don’t know, so those are just guesses. I may have had my food and water limited, because now when I get water I gulp up the whole bowl like I’m worried I won’t get any more. I’m learning that my life is now very different and I don’t have to worry about not having what I need anymore!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
