Hi, my name is Winifred and I’m hoping we will hit it off so I can come live with you forever. I have been at the Atlanta Humane Society for some time now and they have taken great care of me here but I’m ready to have a home of my own. Sometimes I have litter box issues which has made people apprehensive to adopt me, but after spending many weeks at my foster mom’s house, she learned that it was always an accident, not malice, and that I have some preferences that help me have as few accidents as possible. I was the happiest when I had two litter boxes of my very own in separate rooms so I could make it to the box quick enough (her place was pretty small, so in a bigger place I might even like three!). After my foster mom figured that out, no more accidents! I think I just had enough time with her to feel comfortable and at ease. I was happy living with her and she was able to see that even though I act a little cranky, I am really sweet and just want to be rubbed and petted. I even let her pick me up once or twice even though it's not my favorite thing. I slept with her every night and even tolerated her cat – there was a lot of hissing but no fights needed to make him see I was the boss! Now we get along alright, and he even lets me steal a little of his food. I appreciated my foster mom being extra patient with my "issues" and letting my sweet, crotchety, loving personality shine! I would do better in a quiet home with no other pets, this will allow me to relax and feel comfortable in my home-which the nice people at the shelter think is causing my litter box issues. I am also a CATCH OF THE WEEK kitty, which means that since I have been a resident at AHS for more than 30 days, my adoption fee is waived!!

About Atlanta Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit (IRS Tax ID# 58-0685900) and the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta, founded in 1873 following a visit to the city by Robert E. Lee. The animal charity was originally chartered to protect women, children, and animals and remained a child protection and animal welfare society for 79 years. AHS, now a widely recognized pet adoption center, clinic, and educational program provider, was originally located on Marietta Street and moved to its location at 981 Howell Mill Road in the 1930s. Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Road Adoption Facility was opened in December of 2011 in Alpharetta.

It is our mission to prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society.

Atlanta Humane Society places approximately 8,000 animals into forever homes each year. AHS is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for the animals once they are in our care. We only humanely euthanize those animals suffering from significant medical issues or that pose behavior concerns. We are proud to be a part of the solution to ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in the Southeast United States.
