Duchess is a sweet, mild manner Shepherd/Collie mix with soulful eyes that will melt your heart. She is a quiet companion who loves to sleep on the couch and wants to sleep right next to your bed. She's great with other animals! Duchess plays well with other dogs, no aggression has been noticed and has yet to chase cats…but she will sniff them and check them out. Children and loud noises have yet to cause her concern and she is a great communicator of her needs. She has the “herding” tendencies and will nip at you (mostly tickles) when she wants something. Especially when she wants to be petted, any limb hanging off a couch or chair is free game.
The perfect home for her will have another dog that she can spend time with and a fenced in backyard. Duchess is not fond of being in a kennel or inside the house alone. She has a strong need for a buddy and does perfect hanging out on a back porch with a buddy while her humans are gone for the day. She is spayed, up to date on shots, and on heartworm prevention.
Duchess came to the shelter with heartworms, but has undergone and completed treatment. Continued heartworm prevention and yearly checkups will be important. She walks fine on a leash, understands sit, stay and come – but she is set in her ways and chooses to ignore commands as she sees fit. A gentle redirection usually gains her compliance. She is a sweet dog and easy to fall in love with!
