Winky is a senior male beagle, about 8 or 9 years old. You'll notice that his eyes look funny, and that's because he has scratched corneas. Since these photos have been taken, his eyes have cleared up a bit (they are no longer red) after two trips to a veterinary eye specialist in Richmond.
Winky is GREAT with people and other dogs. He is probably the least loyal dog ever because he believes that every human is his best friend. He hasn't been tested with cats (yet), but we can't imagine this gentle soul doesn't get along with them.
Cumberland County Animal Control does not charge an adoption fee or a rescue pull fee. Adopters who reside in Cumberland or one of the neighboring counties (Powhatan, Amelia, Prince Edward, Buckingham, Fluvanna, and Goochland) must have the pet sterilized within 30 days of adoption. This is state law. Adopters outside of the area must arrange to have this done prior to the pet leaving the county. (We use Cumberland Animal Hospital.) The shelter is located at 11 Range Road, Cumberland, VA 23040. The shelter's phone number is (804) 492-3076.Adoption hours are every SATURDAY from 9AM - 12PM or by appointment. The County only has two Animal Control Officers, and they are out in the field sometimes.
Act quickly to adopt Winky. Pets at this Shelter may be held for only a short time.
