Meet Julep, a sweet girl with a sad past. We pulled Julep from a kill shelter to spare her life. She had been seized by animal control for neglect/abuse from her former owners. When you look into her eyes, all you see is layers and years of pain inflicted by humans, and it breaks your heart. We don't feel sorry for her though, because that's not what this special girl needs. Julep needs someone who is going to ignore the fact that she has been beaten down, abused used as a puppy factory and treated downright shamefully by every human she has ever known until now. She needs someone who is going to show her compassion and teach her trust. When she first came to us, she was very distant in her foster home. She didn't crave human interaction or affection. Her mind was shut down and you could see her just go through the motions of every day life. She has made big improvements over the last couple of months and now enjoys affection in small doses. She has decided that a nice body massage is a good thing and will plop her big butt down in your lap for a back and neck rub. She has also decided that toys can be fun once she figured out they were for playing (which she hasn't mastered the art of yet). Because of the mental and physical scars that Julep carries with her, there are some very specific requirements that must be met in her forever home. For starters, Julep must go to an only dog home, without cats and small children. She must have a securely fenced in back yard also, and as long as the weather is nice, at least a kiddie pool to play in because water is one of her favorite things! Whoever adopts this sweet girl, must understand she is a work in progress and will take time adjusting to her new surroundings and people. A big part of Julep's rehabilitation has been daily walks and bike rides which has been very helpful in helping her learn to trust and enjoy the world around her, we would love for her to go to a home that would continue this on their journey with her.

If you are interested in adding Julep to your family, please go to and complete an application.

About Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Heaven Can Wait began it's journey of saving lives in October of 2010. 4 women, 1 dream, and mission of saving dogs. We all have volunteered in shelters and realized that shelter pets needed another option, because for most of them when their time was up, that was it.

January of 2012 we opened our "Lodge"(we call it that cause we DO NOT like the shelter word and we try not to even say it around our dogs). It's amazing, we try to make our dogs feel as comfortable and at home as possible. Because after all we are preparing them for their furever home.

We are a small rescue and we are so proud of all of the lives we have saved and are going to save....this is only the beginning. Also, we are helping our community become educated about pet care, spay and neuter, and what a shelter life can be for an animal.

Last but not least I have to brag about our volunteers, without them we could not exist. They are truly the backbone, they foster, help with fundraisers, network our dogs, and most of all have the same passion we do.

We are strictly a non-profit rescue located in a small southern Kentucky town. We survive off of fundraiser and donations. We decided early on that we wanted to keep all of our pups on a consistent diet all the time.

If you want to help this is a great way to help because the second largest expense we have is dog food. We feed Pedigree adult food, Purina puppy chow and who could forget about the Milk Bones!! Everyone needs to be rewarded right.

There are all kinds of ways you can help: Help network our pets for adoption, donate to the day to day use items such as:paper towels, bleach, Pedigree dog food, Milk Bones, dish washing detergent, laundry detergent, dog toy, collars, leashes, blankets, kundra beds, foster, ect.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do our meet and greet and adoptions by appointment only.

Please call 270.847.9544 if you would like to schedule an appointment.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process is quite simple. If you are interested in meeting or adopting one of our pets, please fill out an adoption application for review. After reviewing your application we will contact you and arrange a meet and greet with your potential new fur baby if your applications is approved. We have several of our pets in foster care so we have to work around foster mommy and daddies schedules.
