This VERY SWEET girl arrived on October 29th. She is not ready to leave yet but we do allow visits until she is. She was found stray in KY pregnant! We agreed to take her in and allow her to have her pups in a warm home rather than a cold shelter floor where newborns would not survive. We are so happy we did. This girl is great! She is 4 years of age. While pregnant, she weighed in at 70 pounds. This very tired girl rode home from her transport quietly and took a walk once we arrived to my home. She is pretty good on the leash so far. She explored the house calmly and while she did not appear to know how to sit on command for a treat she learned that sitting allowed her to earn the treat and she did it within 4 minutes time. SMART! She is calm when meeting other dogs and she had to meet 3 large dogs, one with questionable manners and she did very well.

UPDATE: She slept quietly in the fosters room all night and went outside in the morning to empty her bladder. No accidents in the house so far. This is a special girl, she makes great eye contact with the foster and seems to want a bond with someone so badly. She is doing that for now with her foster and when her pups are born and weaned someone else will be able to bond with her and enjoy the company of a lovely and calm dog.

UPDATE: Jewel gave birth, has 8 pups to care for, on November 1st. She is a good trusting girl who allowed people to handle her pups without issue. Such a great dog!

UPDATE: Nov 2nd, This sweet dog has settled into her role as mother and is doing a great job with her eight puppies. I took her for a walk this afternoon in order to give her a few minutes away from her pups and to see the neighborhood and go to the bathroom etc. we stopped at my neighbors they had three workmen there besides themselves and Jewel went up to each one of them wagging her tail and just wanting attention and love from each and every person there she is such a people lover and also happens to have a very good dog skills. she is protective of her pups with my dogs but before the pups came she held her own and just turned away from them if they were to close to her, I have a feeling that when these pups are on their own we will begin to see Jewel's playful side but right now she has a job to do and she is doing it well.

UPDATE: Jewel continues to be an excellent mom but tonight she wanted some time with her foster and discovered a marrow bone on the living room floor. I let her chew it for a few minutes but did not want to let her take it outside so I took it out of her mouth like I would with my own dogs and just like mine, she gave it up without any trouble at all. Once back inside I gave it back to her and she was all wags and wiggles and after a quick look at her pups she got busy on her new bone. Just love this girl... she is the sweetest dog!

This animal is currently fostered in a private home. Our rescue is 100% foster home based. We do not have a shelter or kennel. They are cared for by a loving family until adopted. Each pup has had their first vet exam, a shot, and de-worming, etc We make sure they have no fleas prior to going into our foster homes. They are fostered out of the shelter at least two weeks or more prior to adopting to monitor health. We take their care seriously! Please note that the adoption appointments will be scheduled after your application is approved. Once adopted, feel free to change the dog's name. You do not have to keep the name listed in this post.

All dogs over 6 months are spayed/Neutered, rabie shot, heartworm tested, parvo distemper shot, and dewormed. IF YOU ADOPT a pup and live in the State of New Jersey we do have low cost spaying and neutering at very affordable prices. Kindly inquire upon an approved application. We also have an affordable program for out of state adopters.

We also offer low cost micro-chipping! For a low fee of only 20.00 we will have your dog microchipped. You will be able to register the microchip for a low cost fee of only 10.99 at the time of the adoption appointment. The 10.99 fee is a ONE time registration fee. The microchip is for the lifetime of the dog. You have the ability to update the contact information at NO cost. You will also have a one year membership to Home Again. This is a big savings for you.

***** If you're interested in fostering we could always use the help to save more animals. A crate, food, and medical care are provided. Sheryl's Den has teamed up with Petfirst Health care in an effort to offer pet insurance for your adopted family member. If you wish, you can enroll once you adopt. Your coverage will begin following your activation. The first 30 days are free! There is no cost to the adopter for this 30-day protection (This program is available in all US states and Washington DC, but not NY at this time) The 30-day coverage plan ensures the pets adopted are covered for accidents and illnesses. This plan provides $1,000 aggregate/ $500 per-incident limit of accident and illness protection. It reimburses 100% of vet bills after a $50 per-incident deductible. To activate the insurance, pet parents must call 1-855-710-7387. The insurance is not active until the adopter activates it, and is not retroactive to the date of the adoption. Once their insurance is active, they use the veterinarian of their choice and submit their bills for reimbursement, which PetFirst processes in as little as two weeks. Adopters have the option to extend or upgrade their coverage at the time of activation.

About Sheryl's Den

About Our Rescue Group...

The mission of Sheryl’s Den Animal Rescue Inc., a charitable, not-for-profit 501c3 organization, is to rescue and supply animals, regardless of age or medical condition, with love, shelter, food, human companionship, medical care, and spay-neuter services until permanent placement is secured into a pre-screened loving home.

Sheryl’s Den will accept animals who are either abandoned in a shelter or living with an owner who can no longer supply care. We will also participate in rescue and placement of animals who are culled from the Puppy Mills or purchased at Puppy Mill auctions.

We wish to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy adoptable animals. We do not accept euthanasia as a means of population control for animals. We believe each animal's life is meaningful and each deserves a loving home. Educating and informing the public about the commercial dog industry, over population, and the need to spay and neuter companion animals is our goal. Responsible pet ownership is also very important to us, as well as reviving the spirit of volunteerism across our country.

Our volunteers are willing to foster or otherwise assist in this rescue effort. We are supported entirely by donations, adoption fees, and fund raisers.

Our goal is to ensure that the animals are not needlessly euthanized anywhere in America because of the lack of medical care or an available, loving home
