My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Miles, a blind but handsome 5-year-old Shiba Inu mix with a cream and tan colored coat. Miles would be a great dog for somebody wanting a loyal sweet companion. He has such a sweet, gentle and friendly disposition. Miles loves people. He’s just a happy goofball who "look" at you with his signature tilted head. Don't let his blindness deter you. Miles gets around as well as any dog. He knows “step up” and “step down” so when you take him to new places with steps and curbs you can tell Miles when and where to step. Miles also knows door, outside, walk, breakfast, dinner, treat, kennel, bed, come, ride, and sit. He also waits on the tile right inside my door for me to take off his leash. Miles gets along with my cats, children, and medium to large size dogs. He is great with my older children, my own dogs and other foster dogs too. Due to his blindness, a home with a small dog is not recommended. He is crate trained, housetrained and has learned to walk on a leash because he is so good, you can take anything away from him whether it be food or toy. He is just amazing!

Miles had a rough start in life. He’d been neglected, was severely malnourished and at death's door when he came into rescue. Yet he still loves and trusts people. Since then with medication, proper food and care he has improved dramatically. Miles deserves to spend the rest of his life being loved and taken care of never spending a day without food or left outside in the rain and cold.

Miles is a special needs dog. He has renal dysplasia which likely caused his blindness. [Renal dysplasia (or kidney dysplasia) means that a kidney does not fully develop. The affected kidney does not have normal function – which means that it does not work as well as a normal kidney.] He requires special lower protein diet, medications twice a day and he needs to drink lots of water so he'd need constant access to a bathroom area such as a dog door to a fenced yard, open patio door to a fenced area or be taken out as needed.
