My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Wonderful People!

My name is Melinda. I am a tiny Bichon girl of about two, with a sweet face and touches of apricot on my ears and tail. I was rescued from a puppy mill and, as a result, I am incredibly happy to be living with my foster family. And I think my foster Mom is just the best thing that ever happened to me.

I like my foster doggy brothers a lot! They are showing me how to play with their toys. (Isn’t that nice of them – gee whiz!) I also like chewies and soft toys. My favorite is my brother’s Ducky. I will lurk in wait for him to look elsewhere, and then I sneak in and nab it. Ha! Dad says I’m a little minx – and that I am very fast and smart!

My foster Dad is very nice and kind. While I prefer the company of women so far, I’m learning that gentle men are really nice, too! Dad is very patient and understands that I secretly like him.

Mom and Dad have been helping me to learn to trust – and I’m learning that people can be kind and nice to me – and that I don’t have to protect myself any more. That is contrary to what I had experienced in my short life and it feels really good to be learning about nice things!

Last week Mom and Dad had a party with lots of big people who came to our house. I was a very good girl and let many of the ladies hold me, but I was not quite ready to do the same thing with the men. I’m also a lot more comfortable if everyone is sitting down. When they all walk around and loom over me, I get very scared. You see I’m just a tiny little ‘bit’ of a girl!

Mom says that I would be happiest in a home with a nice lady who wanted an adorable, loving and protective little girl friend. We could hang out and do our hair and nails and I would keep my Forever Mom laughing and smiling and as happy as I would be in her company. That would be just perfect! I think a doggy brother or sister would be fun as well.

I haven’t been around children, so it would depend on how old and how gentle they are with me. I am very endearing and loving, but if I feel threatened I make play nips to protect myself. I am not a bad little girl - I am actually very bright and playful. And I am not mean - I’m just reacting instinctively based on once being in a puppy mill.

I am learning to be housebroken, too! Because I’m smart it won’t be long. There is so much to adjust to in this new happy life, and so much to learn. I want to be loved, so I am as good as I can be. I‘m ready to shower all my love and loyalty on a special person who will love and cherish me right back. If you live in Arizona it could be you...'cause that's where I am! If it does sound like you are the ONE, please complete our application at www.bichonfurkids.org/applications so we can meet.

Hopefully waiting,

Miss Melinda
