Sampson is a sweet and handsome 2yr old Purebred Tree Walker Coonhound. He likes to give kisses and to lean into you. Coon Hounds are winning many loyal fans due to the fact that they are so gentle and loving. He likes having his ears rubbed and to be petted, including belly rubs . He is currently 60 lbs but needs to gain about 10 lbs which is common with dogs that were strays, he is 25 inches at the shoulder He has his active times as you can see in the video, but he can also be very laid back. He loves being with people and other dogs, he would probably be a bit much for a small dog. He shares his foster home with an active 5 yr old large female dog & a 13 yr old med size male dog. He plays with the younger dog and is good at leaving the senior alone. He is learning some basic commands like sit, lay, off, come and look at me, but will need his forever family to continue to teach him. He saw cats at the vet behind glass, and didn't care, but we have not had the chance to give him a solid cat test. He is a hound so wilife is of big interest to him and he likes to patrol his foster moms yard for squirrels and will bark/bay if he sees them. He likes kids, best with kids over 6 due to his size and strength. He could knock them over out of excitement, but he does not seen a mean bone in his body. We are seeking a single family home for him as Coonhounds don't make good apartment or townhouse dogs. He will need a fenced yard with a 5-6 foot fence to be sure he can't get over it to chase prey. Sampson is neutered, current on vaccinations(including flu shot, lepto, and bordetella), wormed, blood panel, heartworm test (neg).

If you are interested in meeting this guy, we start with an application so please contact his foster mom Debbie at dhbirdlover@gmail.com and she can send you one to fill out. His adoption fee is $250.00

We require a home visit prior to all adoptions, so all potential adopters must live within 50 miles of Aurora, IL. Thank you.

About Animal Heartline Humane Association

About Our Rescue Group...

Animal Heartline was founded by a small group of animal lovers who were individually helping stray and abandoned animals. Becoming chartered in 1979 as a humane society and officially recognized as a not-for-profit group enabled us to care for more animals. We are a no-kill organization staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to finding homes for stray and unwanted pets. We obtain medical treatment for these pets and provide them with food and shelter until permanent, loving homes are found.
