Could you be his lucky charm & give him a forever home. Sampson is sweet, handsome, and looking for a family of his own. He is a 2 year old purebred Treeing Walker Coonhound that likes to lean into you and likes petting, but is not a pest about it nor demanding of attention. He also likes having his ears rubbed; you'll get bonus points for belly rubs! He has his active times, as you'll see in the video, but he can also be very laid back. He gets along with dogs, though he'd probably be a bit much for a small dog. Sampson shares his foster home with an active 5 year old larger female dog and a 13 year old medium-sized male dog. He plays with the 5 yr old dog and is good at leaving the senior alone. He is learning basic commands like sit, stand, lay down, off, come, settle and look at me, plus he does well on leash, he will need his forever family to continue to teach him. He saw cats at the vet behind glass and didn't care,. Today (2/25) he saw a adult cat in a cage at a pet boutique and was scared of it. We believe he would be find in a home with a cat. Being a hound, wildlife is of major interest to him and he likes to patrol his foster mom's yard for squirrels and will bark/bay when he spots them. Sampson likes kids and really is good with everyone he meets. He doesn't jump on people, but does try and smell kids in the face (guessing they smell good to him). He currently weighs 68 pounds, but should gain about 5-7 more, and is 25 1/2 inches at the shoulder, so he is tall. We are seeking a single-family home for Sampson as Coonhounds generally don't make great apartment or townhouse pets. He will need a fenced yard with a 5-6 foot fence to be sure he can't get over it to chase prey. Coonhounds are winning many loyal fans due to the fact that they are so gentle and loving - Sampson certainly lives up to that description!

Sampson is neutered, current on vaccinations (including the flu shot, lepto, and bordetella), has been wormed, had good results from a blood panel, and is heartworm negative.

If you are interested in meeting Sampson, we start with an application so please contact his foster mom Debbie at dhbirdlover@gmail.com and she can send you one to fill out. His adoption fee is $250.00

We require a home visit prior to all adoptions, so potential adopters must live within 50 miles of Aurora, IL. Thank you.

About Animal Heartline Humane Association

About Our Rescue Group...

Animal Heartline was founded by a small group of animal lovers who were individually helping stray and abandoned animals. Becoming chartered in 1979 as a humane society and officially recognized as a not-for-profit group enabled us to care for more animals. We are a no-kill organization staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to finding homes for stray and unwanted pets. We obtain medical treatment for these pets and provide them with food and shelter until permanent, loving homes are found.
