All About Me:       On November 2, 2016, Healing Hearts Small Animal Rescue was asked to help a family that had become a little overwhelmed by the number of animals they had taken into their home, the rising cost of feeding them and providing basic care for the dogs such as spay/neuter, flea treatments and sufficient worm medications to control the internal parasites. What made a bad situation even worse was the family had only days left to move and they could not take any of the animals with them. Thankfully, there were no children involved in this situation.

As we stood and observed the situation, it was easy to see how something as simple as their love for a couple of dogs had grown to fifteen dogs in just a short time. The family was given dogs by other people and some of the dogs had given birth to puppies and were now living at the home. We looked into the eyes of despair, weakness and lifelessness as we loaded the dogs and puppy into the car. They were covered in fleas………..fleas that ran into their eyes, up and down their legs and just all over their bodies. They could not be still as they tried to bite and scratch off the fleas. As we headed to their foster home, not a peep was heard from the dogs as they settled onto their soft blankets in their crates. Once we arrived at the foster home it was time for flea medication, booster shots and worm medication for internal parasites.

Thank you to all of our family and friends for sharing Healing Hearts Small Animal Rescue pictures and stories that helps to bring the reality of animal rescue to life.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

AJ, a Old Fort Cairn Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Cairn Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) for sale in Old Fort, or seeking a Cairn Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog from a breeder in Old Fort.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Old Fort already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Old Fort breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Cairn Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) breeders who help with Cairn Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Old Fort paves the way for another one to be saved.
