My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pumpkin is an incredibly sweet, adorable, affectionate and lovable six-year-old, eight-pound (chubby), female fawn Chihuahua looking for a loving guardian.

Pumpkin adores people. She has been living with me for the past week and she follows me from room to room and cries if she’s locked out of a bedroom or bathroom. She just loves to be with her people. That’s why it’s such a mystery that she was found wandering hungry and stray in Chicago. She never would have abandoned her people, but it looks like her people have abandoned her.

She is great in the car, and wonderful on leisurely leashed walks. Sometimes she voices her opinion when she sees other dogs or people on her walks - even though she is extremely friendly. She is housebroken when taken out regularly and crated when you are not home. When you’re home she likes to curl up on the couch, chair, blanket or cuddle in a dog bed. She’s a lovely and very clever companion who listens to her people and loves to please.

She enjoys sleeping in bed with her family but because she is vertically-challenged, she needs to be picked up or use stairs to get up on the bed.

She has been wonderful with all dogs of all sizes, great with cats and rabbits, and gentle with children … I’ve seen her with kids as young as four. She just wags her tail happily and lets them pet her.

Pumpkin is healthy, spayed, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. She also had a dental including two extracted teeth, full bloodwork, and a canine influenza vaccine. Her adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Petraits. She is currently being fostered in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood – near Lawrence and Ashland.
