Spayed Female, Australian Kelpie/Shepherd Mix (best guess), 10 years old, 36 lb.
Sugar was rescued from SPCA of Bradley County. She came in as an injured, skinny stray dog back in early July 2016, and her history was unknown. Through lots of love and care, she is now healthy and ready for adoption. She is a sweet, gentle, kind soul that loves everyone and all other gentle animals (cats included). She is housetrained, crate trained, quiet, and is learning to play with toys! She is in foster care in East Tennessee. She would love a calmer, low-key household, and nice slow walks. She'd love a fenced yard! Dogs don't come much better than this sweetie. She truly is going to make a wonderful companion for someone (we are thinking maybe a retired person or a couple that would like to have a buddy).
Sugar has tested extremely low-positive for heartworms (as in, it barely even tested positive on the test, and the vet could find no signs of microfilaria under the microscope). Per the vet's recommendation, she will not undergo fast-kill treatment (due to her age, and because the vet feels that there is absolutely no reason to do it because she was so low positive). She's been on monthly heartworm preventatives in rescue, and will be sent home with an additional 6-month supply of pills. Our vet feels she should test negative within that time frame. She had a mammary tumor, which has been removed. We have done full-panel bloodwork on her (including thyroid), and she everything came back perfect. She has some residual hairloss on her rear-end area, and since underlying conditions have been ruled out with bloodwork, the vet feels that she had severe flea allergies previously. We adore Sugar, and even though she is a "senior" pet, we know that the right family is waiting for her! Her adoption fee is only $200, in the hopes that she will catch the eye of someone who needs a great companion.
Sugar is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Her estimated DOB is 10/01/06. She is in foster care in East Tennessee. Our standard adoption fee is $450 unless otherwise noted on the bio, which includes all vetting and transport. Vet references, personal references, and home visits may be required prior to adoption. (PLEASE NOTE: Due to her very light heartworm status, Sugar cannot be adopted to residents in the states of CT, RI, or MA).
