My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is a courtesy listing for another rescue group. Please read dog’s entire written bio before contacting rescue. To inquire about this dog, you do not need to press any special buttons on this website. Send a regular e-mail to Janet Cook at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. Please provide some information about your home, family and other pets. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, foster home based rescue. Though there are some steps that precede meeting a dog, they are quick and expeditious. Thank you!

SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! (The video was taken very early in his rescue - he has come out of his shell more since!)

Pico is a three-year-old Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle mix (Yorkie-poo) who weighs approximately 8 lbs. and is a sweet ball of soft fluff. He is cream colored, interspersed with beige and silver gray mostly about his face and ears. He is a low to no shedding dog and may even be hypoallergenic. Pico’s coat will need brushing, as well as professional grooming about four times a year. Pico was abandoned by his owner, all alone in the house for about three days, until a Good Samaritan stepped in to ensure his safety, (the Good Sam had already acquired the other dog in the home, whereby he had come out of the dog door onto the porch). The Good Sam talked to the owner who proclaimed that she was no longer able to care for her dogs; therefore, the Good Sam took possession of both dogs and relinquished them to the rescue.

Pico is a sweet and loving little guy. We understand from his former owner that he is sweet, playful, loves to sit with the people, loves to get up on his hind legs for treats, and lived with two cats, in addition to the other small male dog in the home. However, because Pico is a sensitive dog, he was sad when he was first transferred to his foster home, and would only stay in the bedroom of the foster’s oldest daughter, because she was the one who had held him on the drive home. It was clear that Pico was upset at having been uprooted from his home and having gone through his most recent ordeal. After noticing he was not interacting, we had him come out into the front part of the house to get to know all of us. It took him a couple of weeks to come out of his shell, but he finally did. Now Pico is playing ball, running around with Pixie, another little Yorkie mix in the foster home, and having a great time. He is learning to play fetch! He is very happy around other little dogs, but is unsure around big dogs. There are two cats in the foster home, and a huge Flemish bunny that he interacts with perfectly.

Pico is potty-trained and goes outside every four hours or so. He has been left unattended (this was after being initially crated for two weeks while folks were away from home) when we had to leave to run errands and he is fine. He is very sweet and loves to be with people. He loves to sit with you when you are working or watching television. He only barks when notifying you that someone is at the front door. Pico will make a great companion to a family that understands that he will need a little time to become secure with his new surroundings.

The home we seek for Pico is a loving and patient home whereby the people will not expect instant gratification from Pico. It should be the type of home where the people enjoy their dog being with them and hanging out near them. We would like a home where the people, collectively, are not gone for long, extended hours on a daily basis. Another dog in the home, or even cats (or bunny rabbits!) is fine as long as the other pets are not too crazy and in the face. Kids or no kids is fine, but kids also tend to want instant gratification, and Pico will probably need a bit more time than your average puppy to feel totally secure again in a brand new place. Pico is a special, sensitive boy who is a very good dog who just found himself in a bad situation. He needs a chance and a home where he will not be abandoned again.

Pico is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Pico, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail.
