About Marcus & Jerry's Pals Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small rescue organization that rescues dogs primarily from the Dallas Fort Worth and El Paso areas. We do not take owner surrendered pets.

Our rescue name, Marcus and Jerry's Pals, is in honor of two dogs who lost their lives to a very tragic "rescue" turned hoarding, abuse, and abandonment situation. There were many lives lost, and that is why we also honor their "pals".

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs are all kept at our small rescue facility, and we do not currently use foster homes. Interested adopters must first fill out our adoption application, even if they would like to come by and meet several dogs. Meet and greets at our rescue facility are by appointment only. We do not have adoption events, as it's too difficult to properly screen potential adopters that way. We always welcome volunteers to help us care for our dogs!

Our Adoption Process...

About our adoption process:

Each dog that enters our rescue has a hold period of at least one week before being considered "available" for adoption. This hold period is used to allow the dog to decompress from the shelter environment, as it is highly stressful for most dogs. This time is also to allow the dog to be evaluated by our veterinarian. The hold period may be extended on a case-by-case basis, especially if the dog has a more serious injury or behavioral challenge.

Once the hold period is up and the dog is available for adoption we will list them as available with a bio and some pictures. Anyone interested in meeting or adopting will contact us for an application.

Applications generally take 2-3 business days to process, but can take up to 7 days. Processing an application includes it being reviewed by all board members of the rescue, and completion of personal and vet reference checks.

If an application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet. If an adopter has any other dogs, we require that they come to the meet and greet as well. We do require a home check, so sometimes the meet and greet will be held at the potential adopter's home to allow us to complete both in one visit.

If the application is approved, and both the meet and greet and home check goes well, then the next step is the trial period. Trial periods last for 7 days, and are required. During this trial period we allow the dog to stay with the potential adopter as if they were already adopted. We have found this to be a positive thing as it allows adopters to get to know the dog better before agreeing to adopt, and it prevents adoption returns. At the start of the trial period a REFUNDABLE deposit of 1/2 of the adoption fee is required. If the dog is NOT adopted, the deposit will be refunded. If the dog IS adopted, the deposit will be applied towards the adoption fee, and the remainder will be due and the adoption agreement will be signed.

All dogs 6 months and older will be spayed/neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, free of intestinal parasites, HW negative, and microchipped prior to adoption. Puppies under 6 months will be brought up to date on vaccinations and microchipped, and will be adopted out with a spay/neuter agreement.

Adoption fees are decided on a case-by-case basis depending upon the age and health of the dog, and what treatments may have been done. All dogs receive age appropriate vaccinations, intestinal parasite treatment, HW treatment (if needed), spay/neuter, and microchip as a part of the adoption.

Our thorough process is to ensure the dogs are adopted out to the best homes possible, and to ensure they will not be mistreated, abandoned again, or unhappy in any way.

Thank you for choosing to adopt!
