Come Meet Our Pets...

Our Adoption Process...

Okay ... so you have browsed our photos of adorable, adoptable pets, and you are thinking to yourself, "I think it is time to grow my family!" You may be wondering how you DO that. Let us explain SOFA's adoption process (it may be just a little different than what you are used to).

#1 - Take five minutes to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire -- you can do this online through our website (, or you can print a PDF to fill out by hand and send to us by mail or email. Once we receive a questionnaire, we will assign an adoption counselor to your application.

#2 - Your adoption counselor will contact you (usually within five (5) days) to discuss your and the pet's individual needs and personality traits. This in-person or telephone interview helps us insure that you and your new pet will be happy for years to come. In some cases, your adoption counselor may recommend an in-person meeting between you and the pet, as well as your family (including other pets), etc., to help determine compatibility. Your adoption counselor is an excellent resource to answer questions about adoption, pet care, and many other topics -- we encourage you to contact your adoption counselor if you have any questions or concerns.

#3 - Once you are approved to adopt a pet, you will be asked to fill out an adoption agreement, which clearly defines your responsibilities to your pet, as well as SOFA's commitment to you and your pet. Adoption fees vary depending on the type and age of the pet you are adopting:

Kittens under 4 months old - $100 each or $150 for two
Young cats 4 months to 2 years old - $85 each or $120 for two
Adult cats over 2 years old - $65 each or $80 for two

Puppies under 6 months old - $150 each
Young dogs 6 months to 4 years old - $125
Adult dogs over 4 years old - $100

#4 - The final step of our adoption process is the delivery of your pet to your home. In many cases, your pet will be delivered by your adoption counselor, but sometimes it will be another SOFA volunteer. Either way, personal delivery of your pet helps us insure that you and your pet can make the best transition possible and is an opportunity to answer any last minute questions you might have. It is also an opportunity for our adoption counselors to make suggestions based on your individual situation to help smooth the introduction of your new pet. For these reasons, whenever possible, we will personally deliver your pet to your home.
