Sophie is originally from Louisiana, where her family had to give her up due to a divorce and was placed with a relative who kept her chained and did not treat her well. Sohpie was taken into the care of someone who rescues dogs and found her a home in the NW. When that home did not work out, her rescuer contacted us to see if we could help her find the right family.
She is house trained, still puppyish, but is past the chewing stage and is good indoors. Sophie is still working on her socialization and is making huge strides. She is being fostered in a house full of other dogs and is getting along well with all. She wants to chase kitties (though has shown signs that she may eventually accept a kitty friend with some more work) and likes the little dogs, but is a bit too energetic for them - she thinks they are cute but her size scares them when she tries to play.
Sophie would be great with a family as an only dog or paired with another dog about the same size or slightly smaller than her (she is a trim 79 pounds). Sophie loves her people and is calm indoors but loves to run and play outside. Sophie is great with kids that understand she is still very young and learning to create enough space for her large frame; and sometimes accidentally bumps into a person when she's excited.
She loves being part of a family so much that she doesn't have urge to wander, and will happily play and stay in a yard with 5' fencing. If Sophie sounds like the dog for you, please apply today.
All of our dogs require secure and VISIBLE fencing.
Adoption Fee: $300
There are many things YOU can do to help us:
1. Adopt! If this Gentle Giant looks like the one for you, fill out an adoption application today!
2. Foster! This is a temporary commitment that gives all dogs in need the assured time to find the loving home they deserve. Your benevolent decision to foster unquestionably determines whether a loving dog gets to live or die.
3. Donate! Safeguarding these Gentle Giants result in expenses that are in upwards $8/day. If veterinary care is needed, the costs exponentiate to $1,000+ for a single dog. Every penny you donate makes an impact when it comes to vet bills! If you were to make a one-time donation of just $25, you would be adding 3 more valuable days to the life of every rescued dog and provide the chance to find the home they have been waiting for their entire life.
As always, all donations are gratefully accepted.
Every dog adopted thru the GPRS program is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered and on heartworm preventative.
