Oliver is fostered in Beach Park IL through United Yorkie Rescue. To find out more about Oliver, contact his foster mamma through the question/inquiry link. Oliver, estimated to be 9 yrs old, is a 15 lb. boy who came to United Yorkie Rescue in February 2016 when he was discovered at a shelter in a rural farming community in Illinois, sick with kennel cough and heart worms. Oliver is still doing great in his foster home and was recently peremptorily tested again for heartworms. He tested very faintly positive, but the vet said this is not uncommon for dogs that has previously been as strong positive as Oliver was. The vet recommends waiting until t 6 months after his completed treatment (which would be the beginning of December) and retesting again. We are hoping by then all the former signs of the heartworms in Oliver's system will be completely gone. Until then, he will simply stay on Heartworm preventative monthly, and we will keep hoping for a loving home he can retire in. He may be considered a "senior", but he is actually quite active, especially when taken on walks and out in the yard with other dogs. Inside the house, he prefers to be much more lazy and sleeps most of the time, except when ambling around to follow you from room to room. We are accepting applications on Oliver now, and would consider letting him go to a home with a great vet reference.
Oliver is crate trained, sleeps in his crate at night and loves following his foster mamma around. He loves a good scratch, and is working on his potty training. He gets along well with other dogs his size, but he doesn't like cats at all. Due to his size, he'd do best in a home with older children. He has cataracts and we believe he's completely blind in one eye and 50% blind in his other. He has arthritis, and can't do stairs, he needs to be carried up and down and lifted up on furniture He should be monitored so he doesn't jump down and hurt himself. He's doing great otherwise and has no issues with his challenges, he's figured out his new surroundings and only occasionally bumps into things. Despite a few special circumstances, he's the happiest little wiggle butt ever!
