My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Ocicat kittens were taken into rescue from a breeder in Southern California who was in poor health. We agreed to take in these beautiful kittens and find them loving, inside homes. They came to us frightened, not people-oriented, and very thin. But they LOVED the resident cats in their foster homes. They quickly bonded with the adult cats, who showed them the ropes, groomed them, and played with them. They snuggle together in a warm heap of faces and colors. We think adopting them as pairs or into a home with another cat with mother instincts (either male or female) is the home we are seeking for them. We will not let them go to a household as a single cat.
These are high-energy cats and you should plan to spend more time playing with them than you might think! As one breeder says, “Prepare your house for a two-year old. They cannot be alone.” http://www.vetstreet.com/cats/ocicat#1_iq5d22r1

My foster mom says that Kailani means “heavenly ocean.” Like my sister, I really like to play and I pull toys out of the toy box in addition to the ones our foster mom tosses for us that day. Crinkle balls, pipe cleaners, fuzzy mice, my foster brother’s zany mice, track balls, anything I find on a desk or table--it’s all good!! I was even pulling the night-light out of the socket so I could play with the cover, but Mom put it away. The kitty tease is a special favorite, but I also like the squeaker on a string ‘cause I can kick-box that thing! I’m also a very good climber! Ajani, Keiko, and I all run to get treats when our foster mom shakes the bag and calls us.

Love playing with my foster mom’s shoelaces, and I also help her sweep and trot out to watch her clean the litter boxes! While my sister’s not interested, sometimes, I’ll dart and leap at the broom and make Mom laugh. I’ll even follow Mom around when she’s vacuuming. Sometimes, when I’m done playing, I curl up next to my foster mom and she puts me on her lap. I play with the kitty-tongue glove more than I get petted with it, but I’m learning to relax a bit and stay for a minute or two. She tells me that while I’m not a lap cat yet, I’m bolder than Keiko and becoming a fine personal assistant. I also love the kitty heating pad which is where Keiko and I stay overnight. Actually, we’re on and off all day, but we definitely stay on that thing overnight if we’re not curled up with Ajani!

Our foster mom’s keen on finding an experienced cat person who will understand the concept of “no sacred surfaces” and who will continue to help us on our journeys, giving us time, space, love, and attention to continue developing.

Kailani is fostered in Davis, CA, and will come to you microchipped, spayed, vaccinated, and tested. For more information, contact foster mom Kathy at kjr610e@comcast.net.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
