Meet the gold medalist in Olympic tail-wagging -- Sampson! Sampson is an 8 year old, 58 pound Labrador. This sweet old man loves people, walks, soft beds, and warm sunshine. Sampson is quite the gentleman and is usually very obedient. He has gotten along with smaller mellow dogs that he's had slow introductions with, but is not a huge fan of cats or hyper dogs. He'll be a faithful companion if you can give him belly rubs and all the food he can eat -- okay maybe not THAT much food but he really loves mealtime! Sampson is getting to be an old man and may have a touch of arthritis. He is not currently taking any medication for it, but may need to in the future. He still loves to go for walks and explore the yard. If you don't mind doggy kisses Sampson would love to be a part of your family. He is looking for a stable home where he can count on his person being there for the rest of his days. Can you show this sweet man what true love is?

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
