Hi! My name is Scorch A.K.A. Shames, at least that's what my foster family calls me! When I first arrived at the shelter, my skin was in rough shape, but the people here have helped me so much. My hair is even growing back too! I am hopeful that in time, it will all return. My foster moms says I am the sweetest, most lovable puppy you will ever meet! I have a doggie friend here that I love to play with and cuddle.

If you would like to learn more about me, please contact my foster at claudia4863@att.net.

Scorch will be at Petsmart in Orland hills on Sunday Dec.4th from 11am to 2pm!

About South Suburban Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For forty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We have grown from a small group of volunteers to an organization made up of volunteers and paid employees that were responsible for almost 4,400 animals in 2013. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate two resale shops located in Steger, Illinois and Chicago Heights, Illinois that promote our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We also have adoptable cats at THREE PetSmart locations! PetSmart Tinley Park, PetSmart Orland Hills, and Petsmart Schererville, IN are both key adoption partners where many of our adoptable kittens and cats are housed until they find their forever homes.
