Otis is one amazing guy. When he first came to the shelter, he was in bad shape. He had hyperthyroidism that had been undiagnosed and untreated for quite some time, and Otis is very thin and his coat was dull, unkempt and unhealthy. There were a few treatment options available, but we decided to try a brand new treatment plan. We sent Otis to foster on a specialized diet, hoping that it would be sufficient to get him back to a healthy state. After eight weeks in foster care, Otis came back to us looking brand new! His coat is now a shiny lustrous ebony color with shine like you wouldn''t believe! He also gained quite a bit of weight, and his foster parent said that Otis gradually became more confident, friendly, and generally happy as he got better. Since coming back, we re-did bloodwork on him and he is almost back to completely normal results. His foster parent also noted that Otis sometimes misses his litterbox, and can be a little stiff in his hips. We suspect he has a bit of arthritis, and having a shallow litter box to get in and out of will make Otis much more comfortable. He is really a stellar boy who has been through so much, and is looking for a safe and loving forever home that will accept that he needs to be on a special diet for the rest of his life. For more information, email or come on in to the shelter to meet this special guy!
