Important Note

Pepper is best friends with Rock. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Pepper is the prettiest Hound / Yellow Lab mix! She has unique black markings on her back to complement her yellow color. Pepper is about 90 pounds and is housebroken and crate-trained. Pepper needs some additional leash work as she pulls quite a bit on lead, but she is a fast learner and eager to please, so she should take to training readily. Pepper is good with some dogs, but displays some leash aggression (barking mainly) to other dogs she passes by on walks - so, she will need to meet and be evaluated with any potential canine housemates. Pepper was rescued from the streets with a male companion named Rock - so, ideally, they would be adopted together to the same Forever Home, but that is not a set-in-stone requirement.

Pepper has a very high prey drive, so she must not be in a home with cats and / or other small animals. And, she will need a yard with a tall privacy fence that she cannot escape out of to chase squirrels or deer! Pepper loves to run and play, and has a medium energy level, so she will need a family that will exercise her some each day. She doesn't live with any children in her foster home, but she has been very sweet and loving to kids at our adoption events (she may be too big and rambunctious for small children). Pepper is routinely crated for 4 hours a day, but could be crated as much a 8 hours at a time.

Pepper has the cutest face and tons of personality! Contact us today about meeting Pepper - we think you will fall in love with this Sweet Girl!

About BarkTown Dog Rescue and Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

BarkTown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We envision a compassionate world where all dogs reside in responsible, loving homes.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment that is needed. The dogs are then placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement into their permanent home. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dogs beyond the adoption process.

Our goal is to help dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, size, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue groups to develop a network of supporters and volunteers to create a better world for homeless dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

The dogs that we have available for adoption have come from shelters where they were found stray or were given up by their owners. These dogs have been let down by humans in the past and may be suffering from physical ailments or abuse. So, by the time these dogs come into our rescue group they have been thru a lot and need a home that can provide them with structure, guidance, love, patience and time to adjust to their new surroundings. Please understand that as dogs transition from shelter to foster home to forever home there can be set backs along the way and they will need your help to adjust.

All dogs that are adopted from BarkTown are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and provided with all necessary veterinary care. However, owning a pet can be expensive and you must be prepared to provide quality food, monthly heartworm medication, monthly flea and tick medication, yearly shots and routine checkups. In addition, you must prepare for accidents and illnesses that may require expensive treatment or surgeries. Many times our dogs have ended up in shelters because their previous owners were not prepared for these expenses and we want to ensure this never happens to them again.

We strive to know and understand each of our dogs so that we can work to find the best match for each dog and adopter.

Our adoption process includes an adoption application, adoption interview, meet and greet, veterinary reference check, personal reference check and home visit prior to making the adoption final. We reserve the right to deny any application that we feel is not a good fit for any of our dogs for any reason. If you are ready to make a commitment to one of our dogs please complete the adoption application and submit for review. The adoption fees vary based on the age of the animal: Age 7 and up is $250, Under age 7 is $275.
