Scarlett is a character! Full of TONS of personality, Scarlett is like a doggie clown. She entertains her foster parents everyday with her antics. She is silly, goofy and loving. She ADORES her Foster Dad, and loves nothing better than snuggling with him. Miss Scarlett is crate-trained and housebroken, and she loves to play with toys. She doesn't live with any children in her foster home, but she has interacted with kids at adoption events without any problems (however, Scarlett is a big, rambunctious Girl at times, so some very small children might be overwhelmed with her activity). She can easily be crated for 8 hours at a time or so with no accidents. She willingly goes into her crate when told to, although she will bark while in it if she feels like she is being left out of family activities. Scarlett likes most other dogs, but she is a forward, someone dominant female, so submissive other dogs in the home would be best, No cats, however, as Scarlett has a high prey drive. She loves to run and play, and is very strong and active, so she would need a savvy owner with a fairly active lifestyle to keep her tuckered out. She does tend to pull on lead, so she will need some leash training to walk more politely.

Come see Miss Scarlett today - we guarantee you will fall in LOVE!

About BarkTown Dog Rescue and Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

BarkTown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We envision a compassionate world where all dogs reside in responsible, loving homes.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment that is needed. The dogs are then placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement into their permanent home. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dogs beyond the adoption process.

Our goal is to help dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, size, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue groups to develop a network of supporters and volunteers to create a better world for homeless dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

The dogs that we have available for adoption have come from shelters where they were found stray or were given up by their owners. These dogs have been let down by humans in the past and may be suffering from physical ailments or abuse. So, by the time these dogs come into our rescue group they have been thru a lot and need a home that can provide them with structure, guidance, love, patience and time to adjust to their new surroundings. Please understand that as dogs transition from shelter to foster home to forever home there can be set backs along the way and they will need your help to adjust.

All dogs that are adopted from BarkTown are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and provided with all necessary veterinary care. However, owning a pet can be expensive and you must be prepared to provide quality food, monthly heartworm medication, monthly flea and tick medication, yearly shots and routine checkups. In addition, you must prepare for accidents and illnesses that may require expensive treatment or surgeries. Many times our dogs have ended up in shelters because their previous owners were not prepared for these expenses and we want to ensure this never happens to them again.

We strive to know and understand each of our dogs so that we can work to find the best match for each dog and adopter.

Our adoption process includes an adoption application, adoption interview, meet and greet, veterinary reference check, personal reference check and home visit prior to making the adoption final. We reserve the right to deny any application that we feel is not a good fit for any of our dogs for any reason. If you are ready to make a commitment to one of our dogs please complete the adoption application and submit for review. The adoption fees vary based on the age of the animal: Age 7 and up is $250, Under age 7 is $275.
