My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pretty PENNY has a story to share. She was found as a stray in one of the saddest situations that happens too often with unwanted dogs. PENNY and a fellow beagle buddy were roaming around when a car struck her fellow beagle buddy. PENNY laid on top of the beagle that was struck by the car until animal control came to recover the body. PENNY was scared, shy and confused as animal control transported her to the shelter. PENNY had a herniated bladder. The herniated bladder seems to be something genetic and not the result of her being hit by the car that tragically killed her beagle buddy. PENNY desperately needed surgery to put her insides back on the inside of her body. This is an expensive surgery that starts at around $4000. The chances of PENNY finding a rescue to take on her medical expenses was almost impossible. However the caring and generous staff at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital offered to perform the surgery at a rescue discounted price. THE SHELTER ANIMAL PROJECT agreed to take Penny into their rescue. She was put on crate rest and was very grateful to be in a warm comfortable home. Even though she was clearly uncomfortable she was still as sweet as can be. After all she has been through she remains dog and kid friendly. PENNY checked into Mount Laurel Animal Hospital on the morning of Tuesday, November 8th. She was supposed to come home that day but the hospital opted to keep her so that they could monitor her closely. She also spent all day Wednesday, November 9th at the animal hospital. She finally returned to her foster home today Thursday, November 10th! PENNY is in great spirits and doing well. She still has a long way to go. She needs check-ups to have the drains and stitches removed.
