Birdie is an adorable little girl. She is fairly calm and very quiet, and is most excited when you come home, and when she gets to go outside and run around. She can be a little timid with new objects and activities, but when you show her they're ok she warms right up. She's very curious. More than anything all she wants is for you to pet her - and for all of your friends to pet her too! If you're not paying attention to her she may try to wiggle her way into your arms to get some love.

Birdie was adopted for a couple of weeks, but didn't get along with the other household dog, so she may do best in a one-animal home. If you're ok with being a one-dog person she is definitely the right girl for you!

Professional trainers who met Birdie said that she needs a some socializing, but that she could warm up to other dogs over time. If you have another animal, we recommend the animals meet before Birdie is adopted.  They also said she would probably love agility training, if you're up for it. She loves to run and play, and could make an excellent running partner for a few miles.

Birdie is a great dog, and her previous family was heartbroken to give her up, and hope she'll find another loving family soon!

Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.

Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (for dogs over 6 months old), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets.

Foster Program:  Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit or email our Foster Coordinator at

About K-9 Lifesavers

About Our Rescue Group...

K-9 Lifesavers is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that rescues homeless and abandoned dogs. We save canines that are scheduled for euthanasia from high kill shelters, where there are typically held only 3-7 days. K-9 Lifesavers also strives to educate the importance of responsible dog ownership, including spay/neuter, training, and pet nutrition.

K-9 Lifesavers relies primarily upon our dedicated foster families since we do not operate a shelter. These homes provide loving, temporary care until our rescues find their forever homes. We are always looking for foster families.

Please visit our website for additional information about K-9 Lifesavers. The website lists our available dogs, volunteer opportunities, foster information, and various ways to donate.

Please help us rescue more canines waiting for their second chance at life with a forever home! Please adopt a rescue, foster, volunteer, or donate!

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process is almost always completed within one week of time you submitted your application (times can vary depending on your location, the dog’s location, and availability).

· Fill out an adoption application (Completion of the Adoption Application does not guarantee adoption- it is the first step in our adoption process).

· An adoption counselor will call you to review your application.

· The adoption counselor will call your reference, landlord/condo association, and veterinarian (if applicable).

· The adoption counselor will set up a home visit (the entire household should be present for the visit).

· The adoption counselor will schedule a time for you, your family, and any other pets to meet the dog(s) you've applied for.

Once approved, you will need to finalize your adoption by completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee in cash or check. At that time, available medical records will be provided along with a variety of other information.
