Ruby's Story...
Meet Miss Ruby! She has been in foster care for a few month now having some medical issues attended to. She is now ready to find her new home. She is a senior girl, we think about 10 years old or so. She was found stray and originally housed at Chesapeake Animal Services. We transferred her from the shelter after her stray hold was up and with their financial assistance had an extremely large bladder stone removed, had her spayed, and a benign mammary mass removed. She will require a diet appropriate for a dog with bladder stones and a guardian willing and able to provide the medical monitoring she will require.

Ruby is in a foster home. As such, potential adopters must have an approved application prior to meeting Ruby.

If you need additional info you can email adoptions@chesapeakehumane.org.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ruby, a Chesapeake Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Chesapeake, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Chesapeake.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Chesapeake already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Chesapeake breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Chesapeake paves the way for another one to be saved.
