ABSOLUTELY PRECIOUS! Meet YODA, an adorable mix of Chihuahua and dachshund (‘chiweenie’). Born in mid-June, this tiny pup weighs about 5 lbs.  He’s now the perfect age to start crate-training as the first step toward house training, but must have potty breaks every 3 to 4 hours. He’s also a little shy, so needs lots of attention and exposure to new people, places and situations to help her become a well rounded adult dog. For that reason, we’re looking for a home where one of the adults doesn’t work or works only part-time; where the adults work different shifts, or there’s a retiree in the household. If you have the time, love and patience for this little love bug, please apply online at our website: www.savethestrays.org. Adoption fee: $200. Please note: we don’t adopt young puppies to households with children under the age of 7.

About Save the Strays Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Save the Strays Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer 501c3 public charity and no-kill humane organization founded in 2003. Our mission is to rescue and rehome unwanted and abandoned dogs and provide lifelong care for any that are not adopted.

All of our dogs receive age-appropriate vaccinations. Dogs six months and older are spayed or neutered and tested for heartworms before adoption. Some of the dogs we rescue and make available for adoption are older, have suffered injuries or have treatable medical conditions. These have included blind dogs, deaf dogs, dogs with amputations, congenital deformities, and limited mobility, and dogs with heart conditions, diabetes and other chronic disorders. We disclose all known health conditions to potential adopters.

Because we do not euthanize rescued dogs to make room for others, some of these dogs may be with us for a number of years or even for life. Your donations help us pay for the care they need to maintain a good quality of life.

Donate to Our Rescue Group...

All donations are fully tax-deductible and are used solely to care for animals' needs.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We periodically take adoptable dogs to Petco at 1265 Broad Street, Sumter, SC, for public "meet-and-greets." Check the Petco website for dates.

Our Adoption Process...

We are a home and foster care-based rescue, with no shelter facility or employees. Because our rescue dogs live in private homes, we ask those interested in adopting from us to complete our application as the first step in our process and only set up an appointment to meet the dog(s) in which they are interested after they are approved to adopt. Please email info@savethestrays.org to request an application.
