Facts about Lucky

  • Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier/German Shepherd Dog Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn - With White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Female
"Lucky" is an adorable 1-yo, approx 50-lb spayed female Terrier/GSD mix who is sweet, playful and full of puppy-like energy. Lucky is outgoing and friendly with everyone she meets. Lucky has yet to be observed w/ very young children, but she's shown no reason to believe she'd be anything but good with them.

Lucky is great with other dogs, as can be seen in the short video elsewhere on this page of her playing keep-away with a bone from a few of the dogs at GSRSV's rescue ranch. She didn't even get upset when another dog took her bone! Lucky loves to play, but plays too rough at time for her owners' two other dogs (a female Golden Retriever and a male French Bulldog/Beagle mix), which is the primary reason they are seeking a new home for her.

Lucky has not been around cats, so we don't know how she is with them. We will try to evaluate her with cats in the near future, and will consider a home w/ a dog-savvy cat for her.

Lucky is housetrained and well behaved inside, where she spends the majority of her time. She is very active when she's around the other dogs, but will relax and snuggle with her people when she's the only dog present. When her people are away, they keep her in a crate to give their other two dogs a break. Lucky is fine outside and does not dig or bark excessively. She is great on leash and walks right beside her young female owner. She would likely be an excellent jogging partner. Lucky loves playing Frisbee and tug-of-war.

Lucky was reportedly the only survivor of a litter of 14 puppies found in a box near Lake Tahoe in January of this year--which is how she earned her name. Lucky and her siblings were about 8 wks old at the time. The woman who found the puppies eventually put Lucky up for adoption, and her present owner adopted her in August. Now, she and her father are also seeking a new home for Lucky because of her excessively rough play with their other two dogs.

GSRSV has evaluated Lucky and is and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Lucky through its adoption program while her owner continues to care for her.

Lucky is located in Roseville. Her adoption fee is $210.

About German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley

About Our Rescue Group...

German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley (GSRSV) is an organization dedicated to finding good homes for German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) at risk of being placed in shelters, or who are already in shelters and possibly facing euthanasia. GSRSV is an independent rescue organization operated by one individual: Brian Foran. Though countless volunteers and benefactors have supported--and continue to support--GSRSV, I run and primarily fund the program, as I have since February 2001.

Donate to Our Rescue Group...

GSRSV became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization in March 2013. All donations to GSRSV are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Since February 2001, Brian Foran has funded GSRSV primarily on his own. Donations have played--and continue to play--a huge part in keeping GSRSV afloat, as adoption fees are a drop-in-the-bucket compared with the costs of running a large rescue program.
To make a monetary donation, please go to the donation page on GSRSV's Website: Thanks for your support!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Because I am an independent rescuer caring for many dogs, I am presently unable to conduct regular adoption or "meet & greet" events.

I only arrange for people to meet the dogs that I have available for adoption after I have discussed the dog and have received an adoption questionnaire from them.

Our Adoption Process...

1. View my dogs available for adoption, either on this Website or on our own Website ( I also list German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes for other rescue groups and inviduals on my Website.

2. Contact Brian Foran at 916-655-3125 or to discuss the particular dog(s) that you're interested in.

3. Complete my adoption questionnaire. It is a downloadable Microsoft Word file on the page of my Website titled "How to Adopt a Dog through GSRSV." If possible, return the questionnaire via e-mail.

4. Go see the dog you're interested in--at my rescue facility, at the home of the dog's foster caretaker, or at the home of the dog's owner.

5. If you decide to adopt a dog, I will have you sign my adoption contract and pay the appropriate adoption fee, which varies between $300 to $100, depending on the age of the dog and whether it is a purebred GSD or not. This fee includes spaying or neutering, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, heartworm check, and a 6-month supply of heartworm preventative. The adoption contract is on the same page of my Website as is the adoption questionnaire.
